Own target for daily steps will be overruled by automatic step

Hi! I am new on the VA3, just got mine two days ago, coming from the old VA. I am pretty happy with the VA3, even the battery
consumption will be okay for me, I am playing a lot in these first days.

Now to my little problem: I am setting a personal daily step target and disabled the automatic re-calc.
But, the automatic re-calculation is done, although in Garmin Connect, the personal target is entered.
any ideas?

  • It's not uncommon for changing a setting like in one place that and not have it propagate through the whole Connect system. Check to make sure the auto step setting matches on the watch, in the mobile app, and the Connect website.
  • Also have a quick look on the Garmin connect website at the watch icon (top right) and see if you have any setting Pending sync before you do and delete it (little X).
    I have found on occasion clearing setting changes here stops setting changes from taking hold when done on the phone app or watch.
    If you use the PC app it's worth clearing pending setting updates there as well as it's yet another spot they seem to get stuck.

    I had something pending and deleted this, but it has no impact on the setting on the VA3.
    Strange is, that the automatic step-target is visible on the VA3 and the Connect app on the "my day" screen, but when tapping on the steps in Connect,
    my own screen is visible.
    When reaching the own target in Connect, I get a "reward", but on the VA3, I get the nice little animation only when reaching the automatic target.
    It is not a big deal for me, but it should not occur.

  • UweEngbertz hmm not to sure then, most of the setting problems I have had in past have been fixed by clearing any pending updates on the website, Garmin Express (on PC) and then making the changes on the watch or in the mobile app afterwards, including this same problem (with step settings) back around firmware 3.xx.
    My only other suggestion would be a soft reset after all of the above, hold button until the screen goes black and then turn back on.
  • Make sure you set auto goal off on the GC website, in the GCM app and then sync. If you just change it on the GC website, that might be enough after the sync.

    I got it!
    The personal target in GC website and IOS app where the same, but when re-entering the personal target in GC website, it was transferred onto the VA3.
    Thanks for the hints, which brought me to this idea!
