Heart issue detection?

I read a story earlier about a man whose Apple watch 3 series diagnosed him with irregular heart beat rhythm aka "afib".

does Vivoactive 3, Fenix or any other Garmin product provide such service?

  • No, none of the Garmin devices have that ability. The thinking is that they are fitness 'get me fitter' devices not health 'am I sick' devices.
  • Some more advanced garmin watches received abnormal heart rate alerts feature recently.

The Vivoactive 3 has abnormal heart rate alerts. Nothing on the scale of Apple I'm sure, but better than nothing I guess!!

    GC
  • In installed Cardiogramme app (third party), linked my Garmin account ... and ... removed it!

I tried the app for about 3 weeks. The connect cloud send the Garmin HR to the Cardiogramme cloud and display it in the cardiogramme app. That didn't give me any insight whatsoever than what the GCM app gives me already.
The app asked me to note what I was doing when I had a higher HR (ie activity etc) but nothing more.
The Sleep data also doesn't sync either so no insight there, nor goal completion there (going to bed on time !)...

I didn't find any benefit in using that app compare to the GCM app.
  • Pretty much Cardiogramme wants you to help them train their models for free, so that tomorrow they can sell you (or insurance companies, or whoever else) a service based on your own data.
Your data has value, don't give it away for free...
  • Hi, I have a Vivoactive 3 purchased 2019, my watch alerted me several times of Afib, I ignored it thinking it was wrong. What a mistake! It was 100% correct. This was a life saver.

  • 10 Months later after my heart operation...My watch has been spot on with no false alerts! Highly recommended this watch truly may have saved my life giving me this early warning.

  • For the last few months my watch has randomly buzzed with the abnormal heart rate. I am always sat at my desk, hadn’t moved much and assumed it was connected to inactivity. If I’m watching TV or relaxing it doesn’t happen.

  • Ok first of all, do you have a stressful job? Drinking lots of coffee? Where did you set you heart rate bpm on your Garmin?

You maybe triggering your alert if you do the above....But you could be seeing very early signs of AFIB...Try not to worry, but don NOT ignore this as it was 100% genuine with myself...If I never had a Garmin I would never have known about my condition until I had more serious symptoms or stroke.

Try not to worry don’t ignore your Garmin.

    Hope this helps

    Regards

    Steve

  • Can I just ask had you had your watch for a while before it started to show the alert or did it show up from as soon as you got it?

Not sure what I expect to gain from your answer but iv had mine for over a year and it has never shown up. It's done it twice in the last month. How many times did you ignore your watch before you went to the doctor?
