I live in Malaysia so it looks as if you're right about only APAC units.

    actually im also in Malaysia...
mine is APAC but with ROW firmware... its from the pre-order batch by aeco / garmin Malaysia.
my guess is current batches have APAC firmware.
so basically 5.5 hasn't appeared for me.
  • 5.50 has definitely improved my battery life... but its still not like 5.20.. or maybe my watch is new and for 1 month it gave exceptional battery life haha...
i used to get 6-7 days on 5.20, with 20-30 mins of GPS and no backlight and sync every alternate day... now i recharged to 100% yday and in less than 24 hours its already at 88%.... am i expecting too much? feel free to drop your comments or abuse me (lol)

have u been using the same watch face?
the ones with active seconds usually drop around 12-14% every 24hrs.
without seconds its only around 8%.
i guess the same should apply to any watch face that is constantly updating data, like weather etc.

Lucky you. I am on 5.50 too. It had a tiny bit improvement from 5.4, so that it can "easily" last for A day on 5.5 whereas 5.4 barely last a day. I have seen 3% per hour or even 1% per hour after upgrading to 5.5. But now it is back on 4.5-5.5% per hour..... I have done hard reset and factory reset too. I have tested with all functionalities disabled and does not seem to affect anything at all...

May I ask what phone do you use and did you upgrade to 5.5 via bluetooth or pc connection?
  • Why have Garmin been so lazy in publishing 5.50 to the US version? I've been suffering the drainage for months.

Yes im using the same watch face from 5.20, the one that HAS active seconds... i havent added any weather widget for update... however i can try disabling the active seconds (from the next time i charge to 100% again) and check the drop value... im more specific about battery life.. for me its a sports watch not a smartwatch :)

looks like some serious issue.. still under warranty?? try contacting the customer care... Im using HTC U11, and upgraded via pc connection... but i think it has nothing to do with the phone? does it?? because i guess VA3 uses just bluetooth and not even LE so it might not make any difference...

    Hi all,
If you read back through this thread you'll see that I purchased a V3 within the last 2 weeks, and had told you that it was the ROW version with firmware 5.50. Well, either I'm gone crazy or I was just totally wrong when I posted that. It is not 5.50, but 5.40 displaying now. It could not have reverted back, so I guess I just read it wrong.

That being said, has there been any news on the 5.50 for ROW?

  • 5.40 for ROW and 5.50 for APAC are probably pretty much the same. You'll likely see something like 5.60 for ROW next... (ROW and APAC version numbers can differ). It could be the 5.50 version was mainly to bring APAC devices to Connect IQ 3 - I've not seen a change loq...

I opened Garmin Express and was told there was an update available. I already have ver 5.40. I Connected my VA3, and it syncronized, but no update. It says: Checked for update, you are on the latest version. Version 5.40. We outside APAC probably have to wait.

    Ok thanks for the info.
