Using External Heart Rate Monitor without wearing watch

Hi guys,

I recently purchased VA3 Music along with External Heart Rate Monitor. My plan is to mount the watch on cycle handlebar while the watch is being connected to cadence and external heart rate monitor.

I was able to pair my heart rate monitor with the watch. However, I am unable to view the heart rate data using the heart rate widget without wearing the watch. I am not sure what I am missing. I even tried disabling the wrist hr, thinking that this will show only the data from the heart rate strap.
When I wear the watch, I start getting the HR data but I think it's from the wrist HR instead of the chest strap.

Kindly help a fellow member.

In order to verify it's not a battery issue on the heart rate monitor, I checked Strava sensors and it was able to pick up the data from the heart rate monitor.
So wondering whether it's not possible to get the HR data once the watch is off the wrist!
  • Have you tried starting an activity (like biking) and looked at the HR in a data field for the activity? An external HRM generally isn't connected unless you are in something like an activity that initializes the connection.
  • It's all about the battery. The OHRM is very efficient battery wise, and with an external band the watch has to have the ANT radio on during that time, plus you'll run down the batteries in the external band.
