Vivoactive 3 Music Wrist Band

It's a common band and there are many options on Amazon. 20mm with the quick release pins, and used for a number of watches.

Does the wristband have to be Garmin or bought on Amazon? Can't I just go to the nearest watch store and buy a comfortable (and long enough) wristband? It might not be as easy to replace as the original wristband, but does the pin do anything except hold the band in place (has it anything do do with heartrate monitoring etc)?

You can find wonderful wristbands on Amazon, and at a much much lower cost than Garmin's originals. As long as they are 20mm large, and are in 2 pieces (so that they don't cover the HR sensor) they will fit perfectly.

I'm a big fan of Barton's bands. Any of their 20mm ones will work fine with the VA3M. I've got an Elite Silicone one and a couple of the canvas ones and they're all much nicer than the strap it comes with.

It is easy to adjust if the wrist is getting thinner or thicker during the day.
