Ability to Show what my pace is relative to 5k/10k

Hey all,

I'm new here and new to the tech, so forgive if this has been answered. But I'd like to have a setup or data screen that showed how fast in overall time I'd finish a certain distance (in this case 5k or 10k) at my current pace. This would allow me to speed up/slow down to reach my goals. So, for instance, I'm running and I look down and see that at my current pace I'll finish 5k in 28minutes so that I can speed up or slow down depending on my goals.

Is this possible to setup on the VA3? Would setting the lap distance to 5k or 10k do what I need? Or is Lap just something that registers AFTER I've run that far?

Thanks in advance

    Followup for clarity:

That is not possible because you can’t presiding your running distance (only in workout mode). But you can work around.

i ran a 10k race last week with an target of 45 minutes.

45 minutes equals 4:30min/KM. I therefore had the following screen during the run:

    - heart rate
    - actual pace
    - average pace
    - distance
(auto lap every KM for average of the last KM).

By holding the average pace below 4:30 I knew I would finish within 45 minutes. I used the actual pace for minor corrections underway.
  • There is an excellent Data field for that called Ultra Virtual Partner. https://apps.garmin.com/en-GB/apps/30760684-38bb-4e79-8568-3ac8b39bdd06

In short, in the mobile connect app, you set up the distance and targeted pace. During the run the data field will tell you how ahead/behind your target (your virtual you) you are.
You can also configure the data field to display, at the bottom, the expected ETA or Expected Chrono (what time you will be finishing the run on the current pace).

You can add this data field to your built-in watch activity screen (works best on a 1 data field per screen layout. Sadly the VA3 doesn't let you choose diffrerent layout for different screens within the same activity, as other watches do).

    Brilliant!

What's weird is that the Garmin site wont let me download it because it says my VA3 is incompatible. I'm running 5.2 on a VA3.

    Weird....any advice?

  • 5.40 has been released, so it may be expecting you to have that. Try syncing with Garmin Express, as that's the fastest way to get a firmware update.
