Auto Activity Start

Anyone have any luck with the auto activity start function working? I have mine turned on and after running for 1 minute it's supposed to start automatically start tracking a timed event. Supposed to do the same after walking for 5 minutes and that doesn't trigger it either. In fact I don't believe the Move IQ function works either because I have never seen anything on my timeline when I go for a run.
  • Isn't it 10 minutes and not 1? Maybe that's MoveIQ. (I have both turned off)

I ALWAYS just start my own activity, as I know what I'm doing and when I start. The main thing I do is the top of my favorites, so it's really just a button press and a tap, and then waiting for solid GPS and another button press. (you do want to wait for a solid GPS for activities that uses it)
  • JaRN99 You will need to enable Auto Activity Start both in the main settings, but also in the settings for the specific activity (i.e. run settings). At least that was the way it was when I gave it a try a few firmware versions back.
  • Isn't it 10 minutes and not 1? Maybe that's MoveIQ. (I have both turned off).

The defaulted is 1 min for running & 10 min for walking - but it may be adjusted.

    Hey,

Had any luck activating the auto activity creation?

I've had the Fenix 5S for 2 month and Move IQ is on but not activity is ever created. Events are there all right. I decided to get this model because of the feature but it seem it has been removed since...

    Any ideas?

    Thks, cheers.

On the VA3, Move IQ does not start an activity it only notes it on the Calendar on the Garmin Mobile App - the only info available is start time and duration.
If however, you have also activated "Auto Activity Start" under the individual settings for a particular activity such as Run or Walk then a true activity is generated after having passed the time-threshold.

    hope this is helpful.

    Thanks for your answer Steph,

On my Fenix 5+ I do not seem to have the right parameter, in the run settings I have :
    • Data Screens
    • Alerts
    • Metronome
    • Map
    • Routing
    • Auto Lap
    • Auto pause
    • ClimbPro
    • Auto Climb
    • 3D speed
    • 3D distance
    • Lap key
    • Auto scroll
    • Segment alerts
    • GPS
    • Power Save timeout
    • Background color
    • Accent color
    • Rename
    • Restore default
That's all... looks like a lot except the one I want :0(

    I'm stuck am I ?

Where did you find "Auto Activity Start" in the Run and Walk activity? On my Vivoactive 3 FW 5.40 i get:
    • Data Screens
    • Alerts
    • Laps
    • Auto pause
    • Auto scroll
    • GPS
    • Background
    • Accent color

  • For VA3:
Step 1: Go to main menue (Hold the touchscreen when watch is displayed) --> Settings --> Fitness Tracker --> Enable "Auto activity start"
Step 2: Go to each application (run, walk) --> Settings --> "Auto Activity start" will now be displayed and you can choose the time scope

Then it starts an activity after this time. But it doesn't always work with my VA3.I think it only works when you don't touch the display / press a side button while walking until the activity auotmatically starts.

Thank you Bernhard. Yes after step 1 you get a new menu in the run and walk settings! I will test it.

PS: Unfortunately not so for the cycling app

I tried it! My VA3 still doesn't start recording any activity on its own, but the mysterious vibrations / phantom alerts still start randomly when "Auto activity start" is turned on.:(
