How to activate heart rate recovery

As titled, looking for a way to intiniate heart rate recovery during or immediately after a workout. My $30 Timex Ironman watch has an easy one button selection process to start a one minute recovery countdown. On the Vivoactive 3 Music, I’ve only seen it once and I did not initiate it, nor can I find anything in Garmin’s literature stating it even exists, let alone how to activate. If a $30 watch has this feature, why didn’t Garmin include it? Any ideas?
  • On many Garmin devices you press stop at the end of the activity. There is then an internal 2 minutes counter that beeps and comments on your hr difference between the start and end of those two minutes. After that you save the activity.

    Perhaps yours does too.

Hey CAJW, Just tested it out on my vivoactive 3 music. After your finished with your activity, of course we press the side button. If finished, then press done and do nothing else but sit down for up to 2 minutes staying relatively still. It will pop up for you and show your BPM and heart rate recovery. Don't know if it shows anywhere so make note of it and then either save or clear the activity and your done. Hope this helps...

    Hey Will,
Thanks for the info. I’ll give that a try as I normally fast walk to cool down after a run, which may be the reason I’m not seeing the recovery page. Much obliged.

Your very welcome. I just wish they would attach it to the activity so you can view with each activity. Maybe one day they will or if they do and I am overlooking this please enlighten me...
  • The information is attached to the activity - it just isn't accessible on the watch/app or online.
  • I just made the effort to look in a FIT file and I see an event named recovery_hr marked two minutes after I stopped the activity.
