Vivoactive 3 and Bluetooth HRM and Custom apps

I have the VA3 and Polar H7 Bluetooth HRM. The HRM works great for native Garmin apps. If present it has a priority and VA3 reads data from it instead of Optical HRM. However, this doesn't work for any custom app like Swimming Pro, Skiing Pro, Inline Skating, Any activity app from various developers. For custom apps the VA3 always uses Optical HRM.

Is this a firmware feature = Garmin intention? Or a bug?

BTW: I tried Garmin HRM Run belt which is ANT+ sensor and it works as expected. A custom app gets data from it without any problem. Lastly, I restarted the watch, unpaired and paired the belt again but nothing helped.

Does anyone have the same issue?
  • Hi, I just posted the same issue before noticed your post. Have exactly the same behavior with Polar OH1 sensor, for sure problem is coming from watch after some one of software update.
  • Ok, I am not alone. I have no experience with a firmware prior 5.2. Are you saying it was working before?

Hi Garmin devs, please fix it.
  • Yes, it worked fine for a long time. It seems that they mess up something recently.
