GSC 10 compatibility

Hello,

I have one Vivoactive 3 and one EDGE810 Bundle. I have noticed that there are faults with the communication between the cadence/velocity sensor GSC10 and the Vivoactive 3.
In one hour ride in the outside i can have more then 20 reconections with the sensor.

Contacted Garmin Iberia and they told me that the Vivoactive 3 And GSC 10 sensor its not compatible.

This situation its very unpleasant...

What should i do?

I use the same combination so I can check it on my next ride.

I however prefer to record the Whole Activity on the Edge. Physio true up will make the excercise visible on the VA3 when it is uploaded.
  • IIRC, the GSC10 is a standard ANT+ speed & cadence sensor, so it should work just fine with the VA3.
  • I have to believe fallingrock is right.
  • It's possible the VA3 needs separate sensors - Accessories - Fitness Sensors No GSC-10 shown there. Is there an option to pair with a speed/cadence sensor on the VA3? Are the Speed and Cadence sensors separate?

    Hi Freixobruno,
This is definitely not true. See link https://www.thisisant.com/directory/gsc-10-speed-cadence-bike-sensor/
I use the same combination and the problem is definitely in the VA3. Reconnect every 10min, but otherwise the sensor can be used.

  • Hi global_local that its just my problem... Reconnection every 10 or less minutes.

In 1 hour ride you will drain almost all the battery in Vivoactive3 and also the data from the ride is rubish.

Just to add my 2¢...I have an Edge 1000 and a Vivoactive 3. Alhough I’m a US resident, the Edge was purchased in Europe so it has the Garmin Europe maps and the Openfiets US maps on an SD card...not that the maps should affect sensor readings. The watch was purchased in the States.

I found that the VA 3 will not stay connected to a brand new Garmin speed sensor. Like these reports, it connects and disconnects constantly. Now the truth is, I don’t really need the VA3 to record cadence, at least not while I have the Edge on the bike. But when I’m just running errands around town, I don’t take the Edge so in those cases, it would be nice if the VA3 did what it’s supposed to do.

And, as a side note, I previously had a GSC 10 speed/cadence sensor on my bike and while the VA3 did recognize it, the GSC never stayed connected and seemed to interfere with the speed readings...like telling me I was going 0 mph. I’m slow, but not that slow!

Finally, IMHO, the VA3 really isn’t worth it. It just doesn’t perform as advertised. The sensor issue is a pain. The wrist based HR function (which is really why I bought the thing) doesn’t work very well at all. The stair counting function is very hit or miss. And it considers strides on an elliptical machine as steps.

Bottom line...I love the Edge, I do not like the Vivoactive 3.

    Hello

I used my GS10 for 4 years with a 405 forunner and with a SIGMA rox 10. Everything worked well. Lately, nothing works. I change the battery, check the position of the magnets (the LED flashes green / red) but can not pair the SIGMA rox10.
I buy a Bryton rider 530 and see the same impossibility of pairing.
What path to follow to diagnose and solve for this similar issue ?
    Thank you in advance
