Floors not getting recorded...

Hi,

I´ve noticed that the floors are not getting recorded on my vivoactive 3. Even a factory reset didn´t solve this problem. So I´m asking if anybody knows if this problem is related to SW (currently on v. 5.20) or to hardware? I don´t know when it stopped recording because 1 day later after I updated i was on Holiday at the Adriatic sea and I didn´t expect any floors there.

Thanks :)
  • Counting floors has been a problem in all three VA's. I've gotten credit for one floor today. I've been up the 14 steps in my house numerous times today. The Garmin programers has set the bar too high for normal counting. My wife's tracker (not Garmin) counts floors with no issues. Garmin is just stubborn. The problem will never get fixed because there is no problem.
  • I am having the same problem as of today. Up to yesterday the floor count was super-accurate in real-time. Yesterday it counted 20 floors. Today I have done the same amount on the same stairs but the count is zero. I have tried restarting the watch. What's happening?
  • I've had the same problem for over a month, actually. It doesn't count any flights of stairs at all.
  • Same here , some day’s it register stairs, other days nothing.
  • similar experience on my vivoactive 3 music
  • I tried restarting the watch, which had no effect. But I have just done a reset (i.e. go to the Settings app, on screen select System > Restore defaults) and that fixed things though it is a little long winded to have to connect the phone app again. I know that did not solve it for the original poster, but it did for me.

I've noticed similar, but I've also noticed that if i run up my house's stairs like the super fit human being I like to think I might be, it doesn't count the stairs. If a wander up like a old physical wreck that is probably closer to the truth, it counts it. That would suggest, to me, that it isn't the height of the stairs that is the problem, but the speed of the ascent.
  • well, for me - I work on the 4th floor of my building, so after seeing this thread, I checked my stats after my usual walk up the stairs to the 4th floor, and yep - it showed 4 floors of steps counted. Guess it works great for me....

I just tried this out and found no difference on speed of assent. When walking from outside up the front steps (4) and immeadiately up the stairs to the 2nd floor, I get credit for one floor. At work, I get credit for one floor because the distance is up 10 steps, a 180 degree turn and serveral more steps to the next floor. The change in altitude is much greater than @ home. There may be more variables at play but speed of assent doesn't appear to be the case with my VA 1, 2 or 3.
  • I does not always work for me as well. Sometimes it works, sometimes not. I think there are a number of reasons:
    • The watch assumes stairs are 3 meters high, in reality they are higher or lower, resulting in stairs not being counted, 2 stairs counted as one etc..
    • I noticed that the watch must detect you are walking, to avoid elevators from being couted :), so when you have your hand on the railing, it is not counted.
    • Also i noticed that speed of ascent does matter. Go up too slow (or too fast ?) and it is not counted.
