Pool Lengths too short

I've been using pool swimming and it seems quite good at counting laps. However the shortest pool the VA3 supports is 18 yards, which is 54 feet... much longer than most any residential backyard inground pool. My pool is 12 yards (36ft) long and like I said it counts laps nicely but the distance isn't accurate.

Anyone else wanting support for shorter pools for lap swimming?
  • This has been requested for many years on different devices. Simply put, it ain't gonna happen. Let's be real here. With a 12m pool how many strokes will you get per length after kicking off, 7, 8 at most, probably less? That's not swimming. If you want a solution, double the length, enter 24 yds, then edit the distance after upload.
  • Andy roc -- i would suggest getting/trying one to the tethered lines. i got one off amazon (less than $ 25) plan to use when i'm on travel. i plan to use cardio (with lock screen) and do 30/60 min workouts. will report back
  • It just seems kind of lame that they don't support shorter pools--- like the kind found more commonly at residential homes. Like I said, I set it to 18 yards (the minimum supported) and it counts nearly perfectly even though I swim freestyle wall to wall in 12 a yard pool.

Overall very happy with the product, even with the few bugs. I definitely like it as a yardage device for golf and it's been very accurate.
  • VA3 counts laps by using the accelerometer to detect change in direction and push off from the wall.
For reasons philiphamsbrook mentions, you will not be swimming much if you push off.

12y is pretty long for a home pool, but I still would feel more like a pinball than a swimmer if I went back/forth in it.

If you want a swim exercise, I suggest you get a tether pool swim device.
If you want accurate lap/distance count, do what philiphambrook suggests (put 24 yards/length and adjust distance after the "swim")

  • Thank you for the suggestions--- I will go with 24yards and split it in half at the end. Maybe I'll try a tether.

Agreed if I pushed off the wall I wouldn't be getting many strokes, but I don't push off for that very reason. Still a pretty darn good workout.
