Vivoactive 3 & Radar

Has anyone had success connecting the RTL500 Radar/LIght to the Vivoactive 3. I can connect and it works for a while, but it drops and won't reconnect unless I close out and delete the ride.
  • I use Va3 and that old version (horizontal) of radar.
All works. Can remember just 1-2 dropouts I have noticed, or at least I think it was a dropout.
the only shortcoming for me is that it is hard for me to see the white dots on yellow stripe (shows incoming traffic distance from behind) while cycling.
when it is red stripe and white dot, it is much better.

ps also connect some unbranded heart rate sensor and wahoo cadence sensor via bluetooth. Also no issues.
  • I've used my VA3 with both the RTL500 & 510 without a problem.

As @marchiuz mentions, the small display makes it a little difficult to use.

Thanks for the replies. I'm using the Vivoactive 3 with my Edge 1000 to overcome the Edge's weak audible signal though the watch's vibration alert. The radar drops from the watch but stays connected to the Edge - tried the connection without the Edge connected and it still drops.

Borrowed a different radar unit today -- no problem with that one. I'll make a leap of faith and replace the radar unit.

New radar helped briefly but the problem was back after a couple of rides. I finally remembered the the watch is really a computer with a wrist strap, rather than a watch, so I “rebooted” it like i would a computer using the side button. I’ve ridden six hours since then and not experienced a single dropped connection. As to the cause of the problems, I’ve noticed some new screens and features since i rebooted so I suspect the software update I downloaded in early June did not install as it should have at the time it was downloaded. The "reboot" finished the install process.
