Does Wifi work for anyone?

Just got a Vivoactive 3 Music, updated the firmware to the latest, and haven't been able to get the Wifi to work at all.

It's able to see the networks just fine, but when it tries to actually connect, I'm seeing a 'Connection Failed'.

I've tried three different router types:

1) Apple Airport Extreme
2) D-Link
3) Apple iPhone 8 in Personal Hotspot Mode

I've also tried with and without WPA password protection. Unfortunately neither is working.

I have a 645 Music and the Wifi works okay, so I don't think there's anything wrong with my setup (e.g. multi-path interference etc).
  • same Problem. "error code 0300" After restarting the Clock, the WIFI has a connection.

Garmin are investigating the WiFi connection problem. They asked if I had the same error when syncing music, I guess this means Deezer or similar as I don't know of any other sync method that uses WiFi.
i don't have Deezer. I figured there would be no point getting a premium deezer account if the watch's WiFi couldn't connect.

Has anyone who has the WiFi connect failures tried a WiFi music sync? Did it work or throw some error codes?

As a side note, i found one semi-reliable method of getting the watch to connect over WiFi: via a network with no security (Open), use GC to initiate the connection (not the watch -- the watch will throw error 0300)

    Hi!

I bought my VA3M this week. Of the 4 attempts to connect to different model routers, only one has worked (iPhone Personal Access). For me, it is very clear that there are hardware / firmware / software problems on the device. Garmin needs to solve this, after all, wifi is one of the great features of the device.

WiFi has worked flawlessly for me since fw 2.80
I disagree that WiFi is one of the great features of this device: it's basically useless: it only allows you to sync your activities and to download music ONLY from Deezer, not from your computer or phone. So, basically useless... This is not a good reason for it not to work, but this device has great potential and poor software from the start!

Hi, just got the Vivoactive 3 music today and had the same problem. Both through app and garmin express. However I managed to connect by removing all known wifi from vivoactive and then adding them MANUALLY with the same wifiname and password. I use WPA and when I selected that it worked. Seems like when you just try to connect to a wifi the watch found itself it chooses the wrong encryption?

Hope this works for you :)

I tried this with wpa then wpa2 but it didn't work. Watch says Connection Failed.
I think VA3m is just incompatible with certain routers' secure links. My watch has worked with a BT homehub but refuses to work with anything else.

    Hi,
My VA3M is able to connect to my phones personal hotspot but its unable to connect to my home wifi, can someone please add what the correct modem settings should be. It’s a bit crazy that I have to change my settings for 1 small watch.
  • Just to add a random, annoying datapoint to this thread: I've never had any problems connecting to WA3M to Wifi. I DO have an APAC version of the watch. We have Unifi AP's both at work and at home, so I guess technically I've only ever tested against those.

Do you guys have 802.11b enabled? I have it enabled at home for my old Fitbit scale, and I think it's enabled at work too. Maybe try that?

But it's always worked for me, I often use it when I'm back from a run and I don't have my phone nearby. I sync using Wifi and then my activity appears in Strava on my laptop.

Ok, so like many here, I'm unable to connect to wifi at home with my WA3M (cannot connect with watch or thru GC app), as well as at Work - at work I can connect through the app. I'm considering returning the watch, but am hoping to figure out whats wrong- I tried many possible solutions listed in this forum, but no dice. Garmin support said modem settings might have something to do with it. Any new ideas???
  • A possible solution to the VA3music's wifi connection trouble --

I've tried various network authentication and encryption types, and garmin have given me an update package to try. Results have been mixed however today I found that forcing wifi encryption to AES allows the watch to connect pretty reliably.  (I can't confirm this for the stock 4.50 firmware as I still have the garmin update running...and can't rollback...have to wait for the next release to overwrite it I guess)

My main network uses TKIP encryption and the watch won't connect to it. My little tplink wifi extender used "automatic" encryption so I changed it to AES - since this change I've successfully downloaded music to the watch via wifi through the watch's Amazon Music app.
