Has anyone used the polar h10 with the vivoactive3 successfully??

Yep, no problem. Both in ant+ or BT mode.

Did this work for swimming?

There could be an issue as the signals don't travel that well in water. Things like the HRM-Swim,HRM-Tri, and HRM-PRO have a "batch mode" where HRM data it downloaded after you get out of the water. But the va3 doesn't support that functionality.
