Training guidance

I am looking for a new fitness tracker / smart watch for my wife. Does Garmin Vivoactive 3 offer a personalized training plan based on one's fitness level and then provide real-time guidance during the workout i.e., speed up or slow down for optimal HR etc. She is currently trying out a watch from another company and really likes that feature but that watch doesn't have GPS.

Thank you

not sure on the training plans, but it can be set to show real time heart rate zone in the workout screen.
  • No. If you want a personalised training plan, then pay a personal trainer whose job is to give one-on-one attention and guidance to each particular client, and whose on-the-job performance is evaluated partly on whether the client's fitness objectives are met (or at least whether he/she is making progress). Garmin's products just do tracking and reporting, pretty much objectively, without taking into account a user's particular objectives, needs and peculiarities.

I'm pretty sure you can set alerts for when the user's HR or pace are outside of set limits or zones, but I think it's going to report a breach, e.g. “(too) slow” or “(too) high”, instead of giving guidance as to what the user should do in response to get better outcomes/benefits out of his/her training.

No true personal guidance based on your individual fitness. There are a number of downloadable workout plans for running and cycling from garmin that use heart rate zones and you will get alerts if your heart rate is outside the prescribed zone. The higher end forerunner devices give extra information such as whether a workout has improved your fitness and how you are recovering after exercise.
  • Thank you all. Truly appreciate your timely and useful responses. I also ordered the VA3 so she can try both and decide herself.
