Vo2max Cycling

Hi there,

i´m a new user of a vivoactive 3. Today I found the vo2max function of it, but only for running. I found out there is also the option for cycling in the connect app. so, is there any possiblity to use vo2max measuring also for cycling?

(sorry for my english, it is not my first language :) )
  • For a cycling VO2 max you need rides with power data and the VA3 does not support power meters, so you can't have cycling VO2 max with the VA3.
  • In Garmin IQ Connect, there is the JMG-DTF Cycling VO2 Max Simple application, it is really a "field", in this way you can have an approximation of the VO2 Max in cycling through the pulsations and speed.
An example, if you had 45 VO2 Max running, and in cycling you get 47, the VO2 Max indicator native to the Garmin will be updated to 47.
I leave you an example activity to see how the VO2 Max chart looks. https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/2644071638
  • I started cycling as well (two days ago the last snow melted at my place and today was 18C), saw the VO2 staying at 35, after two days cycling still at 35. My first thought was that I am sitting in front of the screen more then 9 hours a day this may be a reason?
Feels bad leaving it at 35 if I started pushing with 30 Km cycling a day (just to start stretching muscles)...
I have loaded the "cycling app professional" app in my watch, didn't got to a point yet I could justify vs the stock biking app in terms of data loading into garmin connect, but the watch face is definitely useless to me within a ride (I am polite to the developer now), can't see it without glasses :).
I am interested for a workaround as well regards to the VO2l...
I have installed that "JMG-DTF Cycling VO2 Max Simple app" in my watch couple days ago but not seeing it anywhere showing the table
  • Forgot to add....regards to battery life...
Anything that updates on your screen in real time, let say analog watch the seconds arm or digital in numbers....or just anything that moves on the screen - will drain your battery heavier...a minimalist clean look will extend the battery life. Kapish?

Edit: sorry, this shall be in another thread, my mistake not checking right away

So, this adds the Vo2Max automatically to the connect Dashboard after a cycling activity? If yes, this is exactly what i was looking for! thank you
  • Update: I´ve tested the additional Datafield yesterday: Works great! Last question regarding that: As I noticed Garmin connect does not accept the Vo2Max out of the datafield for its value in the Vo2Max Cycling information. There is still only the value of the running vo2max put in automatically.
  • Swindle, can you help me please how to load the datafield in the biking app? I tried in the biking app, cannot change the field it is always staying with time...
  • you have to go to the "cycling settings" within the cycling app. there you can set your different datafield which are shown while your activity. in the selection must be a option to use the additional datafield
