Event capacity

Can someone please explain how 'Available slots' on the VA3 (as reported by the Connect app on my phone) equates to events I can store on the device? I've had it twice now where only the last 8 events were retained from gym sessions and made it onto Garmin Connect, and a number were lost (probably 4 or 5 strength events and a cardio event). I can only assume it is overwriting the earlier events going off the timestamps of what is there. I do not carry my phone around in the gym and sync before I start and again when I finish, but I would've hoped it would be able to store a dozen or so events without the need to sync. The HR data for when the missing events happened is definitely there and MoveIQ even correctly guesses what I was doing. Although you don't appear to be able to change a MoveIQ event to an activity event.

I did have a couple of watch faces installed and this left me with 13 slots available and have since cleared some off and its upped to 15 (775K). So I wasn't quite sure how capacity for events and slots available correlates.
  • Slots, define how many CIQ apps you can have on the watch (how many CIQ apps/WFs/DFs/widgets you can install) On a va3 you can have a max of 16 things installed. There's also a max for the about of space those apps can use on the watch. And that's just the apps (the .prg files in \garmin\apps folder) and IIRC, that's 1 mb.

Slots are not related to the number of events/activities you can keep on the watch (things that will show up in History)

The events/activities are .fit files and are in \garmin\activities, and on the va3, I think there a limit of 8 of those files

VA3 stores 7 timed activities/14 days of activity tracking. After this, data is overwritten.
  • This is one thing i would change on this Device. I would like to be able to keep at least a week worth of Gym Data before syncing (as in timed activities)

I usually do between 9 to 10 different kinds of exercises per gym session and I would very much like to just sync at the end. instead i loose time syncing right after every exercise fearing the information would get overwritten.

I don't mind having to correct which exercise the device think i did, or how many reps i did...but having to keep my phone with me while I workout is hassle.

don't get me wrong i love this device but why the arbitrary limit of 7 Activities before overwriting?
  • Thanks for the replies. That is a bit annoying that there is that 8 item limit. I guess i'll have to start lugging my phone around or start recording more than one exercise per activity. And with that in mind, does anyone know if there is a limit on sets per strength activity?
  • I really do not know why this is so. Particularly it does not affect me, since after each activity I pass it to the PC.
But in my old FR305 I did not know the limit of activities, I think it was 1000.
I believe that the limit should be some Garmin whim.

mjordan and damvcoool The way your post are written, I'm a little confused on how the two of you are recording your activities. Are you recording for example, a run, bike, cardio, swim, indoor bike, etc. activities and then syncing? Or are you doing a cardio or strength type workout and recording each different exercise as an activity? If it's the latter, why if you don't mind me asking?
