Vivoactive 3 golf app poor

I've just sent this email to Garmin regarding my problems with the golf app.

I am disappointed with the shot tracking on the Vivoactive 3, the device keeps jumping from the hole you are on to another hole when you take a swing. You look at the device and find that it has move to one or two holes in front or behind you. You then have to swipe the screen to get back to the hole you are on.
Then at the end of the round when you download your stats and look at the shot tracking it is all over the place. I have one hole that appears to have 15 shots tracked on it, and one hole with just one. This is very poor, the golf app on the device is to sensitive to movement whilst even taking a practice swing.
I have had to go back to using my Approach X40 for golf. I am completely dissatisfied with my Vivoactive 3 I'm afraid.
Sort it out or I'll be looking for my money back as it doesn't do what it's supposed to do.

Anyone else experiencing this problem?
  • overall I'm OK with the app, it needs the distance travelled fixing and yesterday I went to the new course and got extremely p!ssed off with it although it was user error, got to the course, opened garmin golf app on my phone, selected the course we were on and pressed start, my watch notified me of the course we were playing and expected to be able to open the VA3 golf app and course to be there, tried it on a few holes and it didn't see where we were, only when I got home did I realise I had to use Garmin connect to download the course map to the watch and not the garmin golf app
  • ... so what actually is the golf app for? I couldn't figure out how to use that together with Garmin Connect?

Aside from getting an overview of the holes I've no idea why the golf app is needed, certainly confused the hell out of me (doesn't take much)
  • It gives distance to green. Front middle, and back. It will also track scores. Over time this can be useful for greens in reg and putts especially.

Had a round with rain and rain jacket.

The VA3 was useless and I had extreme issues with the display.
It was constantly shifting. When I looked at the display it was not shown the current hole.
It shows randomly other things like other hole, golf settings, or I was deep in settings.

Very frustrating! It was not possible to check the distance with a quick view.
Sometimes I had to scroll back up to 6 times!

    Garmin:
Is that only a "sunshine" watch?

The standard display look function is not useful. Is there a easy way to lock and unlock the display (display gesture)?

    Autoshot:
Sometimes it is working perfect, but today only 2 of 9 holes were recorded correctly.

I like the VA3 but not for Golf

Bernd_08, There is lot of missing features and issues in the golf app, but the symptoms you describe sounds that something either presses the button or interact with the touch screen or side swipe. I had to move the button to point to the left and disable the "side swipe" to be able to hit the golf ball without something happen in the app...

Unfortunately it happens only in wet conditions (Finger, Display, Sleeve). I assume my wet sleeve interact with the display.
Side swipe is disabled and the knob is directed inside.

Same problem here as reported by JonnyM64:
While on the golf course, the watch keeps jumping by itself to different holes than the one I am on when I swing. Need then to check everytime to move back to correct hole in order to have the right distances displayed.
Same also with the autoshot which often tracks shots from wrong origin positions. When looking at the record after playing, some holes are correct but many are showing completely wrong shots.
I have tried to lock the watch with no success, still moves to different holes when I swing.
Definitely is even worse when wearing long sleeves as it probably interacts with touch screen, but same problem even with short sleeves
And as already reported by others, missing the total walking distance in statistics.
Would appreciate also a full gps position tracking displayed after the round (same as for walk or bike)

Have the same problems as the op and BrunoA, could it be that the GPS is too sensitive between holes that are close together?
I'd like to have a setting whereby you can lock the hole you are playing and when you finish a hole just swipe to the next hole, I know this is dumbing down the app but better than lining up a shot and the watch shows a hole ahead or behind you.
