Charging Bug

I contacted Garmin in Thursday about a bug, I charge to 100% and the battery loses about 3% battery per hour for the next couple of hours. After this it settles down and discharges correctly.

I was expecting them to advise or was a software bug but was instead advised to send it back and they would send a new (refurbished) watch.

Has anyone else had this issue? Has it been fixed by a replacement?. My great is that the new one does the same thing.
  • then its probably ur charger.
after reaching 100%, dont unplug it immediately...leave it on for perhaps 10mins longer...and see how it goes.
  • I've had similar issues, I've found that turning it off after charging then switch it on and seems to last really well
  • Seems to be normal. Same with mine. I think the watch needs some drain after charging to learn battery level and drain.

I have similar issues after every charge via the mains.

    1. Charge to 100%, then battery starts to drain at around 5% per hour.
    2. Plug watch back in and start to recharge.
    3. Power off/on whilst recharging.
    4. Watch usually then reverts back to draining around 0.7% per hour once fully recharged, usually after 3 attempts at recharge.

Very annoying and time consuming to do a simple procedure. Garmin offered me an exchange but I haven't accepted yet as it seems like a software issue to me.

A replacement wouldn't be a brand new device by the way.

Garmin advised it would be as per below.
    • You will receive a newly overhauled replacement. Our newly overhauled (NOH) devices are devices that have been returned to Garmin to be factory refurbished. Newly overhauled devices go through extensive testing to bring the units up to the same specifications as when they were manufactured as new, maintaining high quality standards.
if everyone else is seeing this issue why would Garmin replace it. Seems very strange and will likely be present on the next one.

I'm inclined to think it's a software bug as well.

Got Amazon to replace with a new one so I will see how it goes.

Tried charging all night and made no difference, there is a merry dance of unplugging and then recharging. It doesn't always work.

  • Really no issue and no need to replace. It's just normal behaviour.

Your normal and mine are world's apart, my phone doesn't do it. My old Garmin watch didn't do it, my kids camera doesn't do it.

Why in the world would you believe this to be normal. Garmin obviously didn't think it was normal as they offered to replace.
  • I can observe exactly the same problem. Could anyone confirm whether the hardware replacement is the solution here?
  • my best guess is its a firmware issue.
previously after charging to 100%, it doesn't immediately discharge / drop 3% soon as its unplugged etc...but overnight it would lose 7%.

currently, as some observed and as too for mine... sometimes it drops 3% after unplugging... but it then stays pretty consistent and only dropping 3% overnight.

there actually is a similar thread somewhere again where someone also noticed improvements in battery life with the new firmware.
