Using vivoactive with walking treadmill desk

I just got a vivoactive 3 and am brand new to the garmin ecosystem. I have a walking treadmill desk that I walk on for about 2 hrs each day I'm at work. Is there a way to manually tell the watch that I'm moving and to tell it the number of steps I've walked, distance, speed, and time? It seems to randomly pick up steps while I'm walking on the treadmill. Since it doesn't know that I'm walking, it seems to think I'm very stressed out :). Really not interested in buying a pedometer since I just shelled out a fair amount of money for this watch.

Thanks,
Pat
  • The problem is that your desk is dampening the vibration of most steps. You could put the VA3 in your pocket or try it on your other wrist.
  • You could manually add an activity in the Garmin connect app on the phone. You can then add distance & time manually, it comes up with an estimate of calories burned as well.

u could just use the 'cardio' or 'treadmill' app?
granted it still wont count the steps and hence distance properly, as that would probably require the related arm movements done when walking etc.
but at least it will measure it as an activity.

I've figured out how to add a manual activity - i can put in the distance and time, but not steps? Is there no way to add that? Also, is there a way to get it to turn off the activity monitor while on the treadmill so it doesn't pick up stray movements? I'm working at a desk so my arm movements are on a keyboard, not at my sides.

Yes – you do so manually, and no differently from turning off the activity monitor in any other context. It doesn't matter whether you're physically standing or walking on the treadmill at the time when you choose to do toggle the status of the activity monitor.

This has been my biggest issue. +10k steps/day on my treadmill desk and no way to get really track those steps.
