I get the alert/notification, and the screen shows New Message, but when I click on it, I never see the message. I understand that I can't see group or MMS messages, but these are regular texts. Any ideas? This is one of the reasons I chose the Vivoactive 3. I really want to be able to sneak a peak at texts during meetings. Could it be that the texts are coming from an iPhone?
The app you use on your mobile device for handling the incoming messages dictate how the notifications (that it passes the the mobile device operating system's Notification Centre, and in turn forwarded by Garmin Connect Mobile to a connected Garmin wearable device) are structured. At a guess, Garmin Connect Mobile assumes the notifications will be structured in the simplest manner possible, and if the app does anything ‘clever’ (such as not simply putting the first so many characters of the unread incoming message into the content of the notification as plain text), then you may end up getting a notification without a preview of the message content.
My advice is that you try a different app as the default app for handling SMS messages on your mobile handset. On Samsung Galaxy handsets, for example, the native (i.e. Samsung's) Messages app is known to generate notifications that offer previews of unread messages just fine, but the Verizon Message+ app does not, if I recall correctly.
Interestingly enough, this allowed text message content to show up on my Edge 1000 as well, which previously only showed that a new message had arrived and by whom.
I'm using textra as my default text message app and it's the only thing that isn't being notified on my newly bought VA3. Phone, email, etc all get notified. Will try to change the default on my phone and see if it starts working...... Galaxy S7 here as well.
I had this problem on my new vivoactive 3 too. I would get an alert on my vivoactive 3 that said "new message" but had no details on who it was from or the actual message.
The connection between the phone and watch was good or I would not be getting any text alert at all.
The problem is in a phone setting.
In my phone messaging app I had to change the settings to allow text message preview. When I get a text now a preview window shows up on my phone screen. It also now shows the name of the person and the full text message on my vivoactive 3.
I hope this helps someone. I was very frustrated until I got this figured out.
