Unreliable sleep recording

Really enjoying this Vivoactive 3 watch, its been great for running, walking, heart rate seems ok, pretty much most things work well for me apart from the sleep tracking.
2 out of 7 days it tracks/records my sleep data (even is the data is a little basic, compared to fit-bits awesome sleep data). Most of the time, it just simply doesnt record my sleep at all, i've tried on three different phones, android and Iphone, I've reset the watch, its updated to the latest official released software etc...what am I doing wrong.
At the moment, there is no way I could ever recommend this to anyone interested in sleep tracking.
  • Have you set your normal sleeping hours in your user settings? I don't think Garmin will track sleep outside those hours.

That said, I have the same experience as you regarding sleep tracking, luckily it's not a too important feature to me. It normally picks up my night sleep, however afternoon naps etc. are never being picked up. I'm not sure, but I think maybe it's not able to pick up more than one "sleep session" per day.
I'm also coming from FitBit, and in my opinion Garmin's sleep tracking is a joke in comparison.

I guess my general advise would be that if sleep tracking is important to you; Buy something else than Garmin at this point.

Is your missing sleep data somehow related to the days when you recharge your VA3?

I am experiencing something similar described in this topic:

  • I keep hoping for a new control menu object that would let me tell the watch when i go to sleep and when i wake up instead of it trying to guess.
