Has anyone used the alert feature in the swim app? I set it to alert every 4 lengths and after the alert- the screen changed to Settings and History. I had
to swipe get it back- which did not happen in the original vivoactive. Is this by design?
  • No -- there's another thread regarding this problem (and other swim issues).

I think Garmin knows about it and (I believe) it has been recorded with Garmin as a problem.

I wouldn't put too much faith in them fixing it soon.

** I had mine set for 4 as well, but changed my watch alert to every 10 lengths (in 25m/y pool) to limit the number of times this happens. It's a hassle but I just swip to get data screen back**

I have mine set to 4 lengths and it warns my after about 3 and a half lengths! When I look at watch at the end of the forth length it shows 100 m, no sweep necessary, so that is perfect for me. I never stopped just when the alarm came to see what the display shows at that moment though.
  • @MrRadios my alert also vibrates about half-way through the last length -- I think that's the way it's supposed to work as my old VA does the same thing. I like it that way because you know you're on the last length of a set (or final) before you're at the end of the lane. The alert in the middle of the last length also doesn't really change anything -- the time/stroke count/swolf remain accurately recorded for that length.

I also have not stopped in the middle of length to see what the alert screen looks like. BUT, as someone else in these forums discovered, when the alert goes off the touchscreen becomes activated and water splashing can cause false swipes. the false swipe puts the watch into menu modes. It's not a huge deal, but a little bit of a hassle as I have to swipe back to data screen. I guess you're lucky it hasn't happened to you (or I'm unlucky it does!)

I didn't know that. Well, I got a bit more than 80 alarms while swimming (mostly crawl) up to now and did not get one false sweep (jet?). You can lock lock the screen during activities, that might help the unlucky ones ...?:)
  • Thx, but I tried the lock screen during activities feature and it's too much of a hassle when doing sets -- have to unlock to pause, unlock to restart and so on.

Also, I seem to recall that even with screen locked, the alert unlocks the screen temporarily -- so still have same problem of watch going thru menus, etc.

This is good to know- and appears to be a bug. I hope Garmin fixes it! I guess we’ll see. I didn’t pay much attention to the alerts- but knowing they weren’t working was really bothering me.

And it it makes sense if the alert temporarily unlocks the screen and the water splashes switch it to menus.

Does this happen to anyone when using alerts for other activity apps?
