VA3 not showing up on Macbook

Well my VA3 has been "fun" from the start.
I've never had 2 full days use before it needs recharging.
Today it neither shows up in my Macbook Air when I plug it into the usb, nor my iPhone.
I deleted it from my iPhone and tried to re-install it but whilst its showed up as connected under bluetooth, it failed to completely install.
I tried deleting it another couple of times with no success at an install.
Went back to the macbook and I've tried turning it on and off but I still can't get it to show up when I plug it in either of the two usb ports.
So the icon which would normally appear on the screen with the word Garmin doesn't now show up when I plug it in and when I start up Garmin Express it doesn't see the watch.
I so hate this watch and wish I'd never parted with my original Vivoactive.
I only traded up due to disliking the cheststrap and finding the VO3 easier to make out in the dark.
Any ideas?

It charges when plugged into the macbook but doesn't show as connected.
I assume by this that the cable is ok.

I've managed to do a factory reset of the watch and having deleted it and re-installed it on the phone, but whilst I appear to have gotten my phone to now sinc with it ok, I still fail to get my macbook to recognise it.
Its still charging ok via usb but simply not being seen otherwise.
