Asian Firmware still at 3.10

Garmin apparently makes different firmware for watch you buy in different country. I bought my watch in Singapore, the international firmware is already at version 3.40, but the Asian firmware still stuck at version 3.10. I have been affected greatly by the frequent sensors disconnect issue at version 3.10 and unable to update to version 3.40 (tried even with Garmin Express). Called Garmin, they said the Asian version will only release 8 weeks post the international version release, what a sloooowwww update for Asian version. Can't believe Garmin takes their own sweet time to release the firmware update to different markets. Anyone tried to update their Asian version of watch to international firmware version with success?
  • Um.. the Vivoactive 3 sold in Singapore is on the International firmware. My VA3 is on 3.40 already. I even called the local distributor a while back to ask about chinese fonts but they told me the one sold in Singapore is the "global" international version which doesn't support asian languages.
  • If you connect the watch to a computer, under the garmin directory is a file called garmindevice.xml. Look in that for "PartNumber". If it's 006-B2700-00, it's the ROW version (Rest Of World) and not the APAC (Asian-Pacific) version. APAC is 006-B2976-00

There's no way to install ROW FW on an APAC device. Do not change the garmindevice.xml file!
  • Interesting. I bought in SG but only accept Asian firmware as confirmed by Garmin after checking the serial number. So I am kind of stuck now to wait for Asian firmware to be updated to 3.40. Not sure if anyone has a success story by copying the international 3.40 gcd file into the watch to do a force upgrade?
  • You can't install ROW FW on an APAC device.

APAC FW often is available 4-6 weeks after the ROW FW

Just checked, part number is 006-B2976-00. :( So I have to wait another few more weeks before Asian 3.30 is released then 3.40. Sad....

Oh, I thought version 3.30 onwards has less sensor disconnect as compared to the lower version.

Interesting!! I called Garmin and confirmed that Asian version is at 3.10. Would you mind to double check the part number in garmindevice.xml file by connecting your watch to a computer? (Instruction was given by Jim earlier in this thread).

    Thank you!
