Broadcast HR to third party app

I have a fitness app, which can receive the HR data from a HR monitor.
I've tried to connect the VA3 with the broadcasting mode to this app, but it doesn't show in the app.
Do you know if the broadcast is done by ANT+ or BLE?
Are there particular settings to make it connect for broadcasting HR to third party app?

Point 4 suggests that broadcast is made over ANT+ only. So if your phone and app do not support ANT+ sensors, then you're out of luck.

Is it possible with a firmware update to chose to broadcast with BLE?
Not so many smartphones support ANT+

In theory it's possible, because all the necessary hardware is there, but no such update exists so far and I would not expect Garmin to add this feature anytime soon.

And in practice it is done already - check Garmin Connect on your phone - it has pulse real-time right there. And your phone is not using ANT+ for that. Yet, I agree, Garmin would not help third-party here (not by implementing HR BT profile, neither by opening API to Garmin Connect) and that is okay with me, TBH.

Do you know if there is an app in Connect IQ which broadcast the HR via Bluetooth?
