Stress Value not correctly synced / calculated?

For the last two weeks (since FW 3.30) stress calculation has been a bit off for me. I am getting higher values than usual (not being sick or feeling exceptionally stressed at the moment). For example i am getting "medium stress" sitting on the couch with a HR 5 points below my days resting HR (which by itself is absurd, i know). There is already a thread about the same problem in the Forerunner 935 forum: https://forums.garmin.com/forum/into...e-stress-level It seems to have got to do with some new algorithms being implemented.

Apart from that it seems that the watch is not syncing properly to the app, see the screenshots. The watch showed a couple of more blue rest-bars than the app... anyone else experiencing same problems? ciq.forums.garmin.com/.../1320678.png ciq.forums.garmin.com/.../1320679.jpg
  • My stress level on my VA3 seams to have jumped also. When I first got the watch on Feb 22nd, my average stress level was in the 40s and I had a least a couple hours of "rest" each day. On March 5th, my average stress level jumped into the 60s and it shows only a few minutes of "rest" per day.
  • I have the same issue. Started on February 28. I only get about 1% of rest per day now. It shows me stressed even when asleep.
  • I just got off a rather lengthy chat session with Garmin support about this without any luck. I have been having this issue since the end of January. If I reset to default the stress monitoring will work for a coupe of weeks but then goes out again. I have reset to default 3 times now and don't want to keep doing it so I think I am just going to remove the widget from my device and give up. I have seen comments that this issue is related to an update so if that is the case maybe it will be resolved with another update. However, the agent I chatted with indicated to me that there have been no issues reported about this so report every issue you have because it's not going to be fixed otherwise.
  • I have an open ticket with Garmin for a couple of issues including the stress monitoring. I just did the factory reset a couple of days ago and so far so good. We'll see how long it lasts.
  • For me the stress values are generally really off, to the level that I'm considering it a gimmicky feature. I've seen higher stress values when relaxing on a Sunday afternoon compared to a crazy day at work.
  • I finally did the factory reset a couple of days after posting this and it has been working more or less properly up to now (about two weeks).
  • Well I got a good 4 days after the factory reset. My stress score is back to being very high and probably even worse than before. Now it reads 0% rest. I have a low-stress (usually) desk job with a light calendar this week and my boss is away on vacation. It doesn't get any more low stress for me! Or maybe I'm just a physiological freak...
  • Same here. In addition, I face large gaps in the curve; during sleep time or when I am fully relaxed lying around (where I would expect blue bars). Sensor does great, because heart rate is monitored without gaps - and so HRV calculus should be possible. Device is a vivoactive 3 with firmware 3.5. Please see image attached (from today - sunday - doing nothing). Help appreciated!

Edit: So I did the factory reset (as advised by others) and Stress dropped from ~50 to <10! This correlates better with this completely relaxed Sunday doing nothing.

Please Garmin, fix that bug - thanks in advance! ciq.forums.garmin.com/.../1331985.png

I think there may be some confusion between all day stress and HRV. The HRV requires a 3 minute test with a compatible chest strap. The VA3 doesn't have this feature as an option. I've enclosed a link to the Garmin product page comparing the 935, VA3 and 645. If you scroll down to "Heart Rate Features" it list what each device is capable of doing.

Update: Well, reading an article by Firstbeat, it says the all day stress widget is using HRV data. Now I'm a little confused because the 645 and 935 have both the all day stress and the HRV test. There has to be some difference between the two, but I'm unable to find what that difference is.
