HR/ANT+ dropouts may be fixed with Sensor Version 5.8

There is another topic regarding an upgrade to sensor version 5.8.
I took this upgrade today via Garmin Express.
Later on I did an indoor cycling workout with the Garmin ANT+ speed sensor and using on board HR.
For the first time I did a workout (33 minutes ling) without any dropouts.

For those with this ANT+/HR dropout issue, please take the upgrade and report back.

Hopefully you can have a workout that looks as clean as mine.

  • My apologies for the radio silence but this is due to us still not having a firm release date to share. I truly understand the frustration this issue is causing and can confirm that this has been given a very high priority. The information provided here has aided us in investigating this, and it has unfortunately taken quite a while to lock down multiple causes and problematic scenarios. Thank you for your continued patience.

Thanks Garmin-Blake for the update. So if possible, can we please, please, please try to get a Beta for it? If you can plea with your developers. We're desperate! ....And for those getting ready to reply to this that we're already on Beta software, lets be nice.... :)
  • I have a weird problem with my VA3. I have a Wahoo Tickr and a Garmin soft strap band. Both are connecting fine but when i leave the connection screen the connection with is instantly lost.
    Is this a common problem?
  • @Garmin-Blake:
Will be fixed with the next update the issuethat the VA3 used as HR-Sender drops the connection after some minutes?
  • I rode my bike for 2 hours today and the watch dropped my HR reading 10 times. Every time it dropped to 70bpm and climbed back to normal very slowly. Well done Garmin.
  • Ride again today. HR broadcast to Edge works as usual: dropped countless times to 70bpm. But today it has something new. It refused to rise back to normal and my HR stayed at 110 to 120bpm even I keep riding uphill for long long time and should be doing 140-150bpm. I stopped my bike and restarted the broadcast, nothing improve. Then restart the watch. It got better and back to normal, normal means it continued to drop the HR broadcast and HR numbers climbed back slowly.
I would wait for the next firmware update. If nothing change, ask for refund and this is my last Garmin.
  • Do the support teams in any wy communicate witch each other?
I wrote a support ticket with this ticket to the German support and even linked different threads from here, sent them snippets of the sensor error log and pictures.
What I got (and what makes me furious to be honest) is the standard text block about how to wear OHR devices and accuracy issues.

I normally use the main language of the company (if I can) but maybe I should have used German here, it seems they could not understand what I wrote.

Nevertheless I am somewhat relieved that they are working on it. That also would have been the appropiate answer to my support request.
  • This problem only happens to me since May 4th.
I have 50+ activities before May 4th and not a single problem.
Since then I have logged 10 activities and all of them have HR dropout, usually drops to 70 and raise back to normal after few mins.
Coincidently the weather become warmer since early may and I sweat a lot during the workout. I suspect the sensor can't handle too much sweating.

I asked the German support 2 times in German. 3 weeks without an answer to the first question, 2 days without an answer to the second. Maybe they have a vacation? :p
  • My va3 has gone back to the shop. Now have 735xt. It works fine on broadcast :pciq.forums.garmin.com/.../1354144.jpg

From my experience of my own watch, I considered it was related to sweating too. But I tested broadcasting my HR in my house with air conditioning and I just sat down doing nothing, the watch still dropped signal and down to 70. Then the next day I recorded my whole ride without HR broadcast, there was no more drop out (for the first time) even I sweat heavily. So I am quite sure it relates to HR broadcast and ANT+ sensors connection.
