Tracking freezes on treadmill

Hi. I've had my Vivoactive 3 for a little over a week now and I'm really enjoying it but I am having an issue when using a tracked treadmill activity. I've done 4 treadmill runs now and on the 1st run it stopped tracking distance at .3 miles. The second run it stopped tracking at .59 miles. The 3rd run worked fine and after ending the activity it let me put the actual distance read by the treadmill in to calibrate so I thought I was good. The 4th run however stopped tracking distance at .8 miles. All of these runs were over 4 miles. I was able to edit the distance after the fact in Connect IQ but I'm wondering if there is an easy fix or if there is something simple I may be missing. One thing I did try after the 1st run was to swap the watchface to one of the factory installed ones and rebooted the watch before starting an activity but that hasn't seemed to help. The issue only seems to be happening on the treadmill activity as the few outdoor GPS walk that I've done have been spot on. I haven't done any outdoor runs yet due to the weather. Any help or thoughts are appreciated. Thanks!

Sounds similar to my experience. When this happens to you do you get a long pause before the activity stops after pushing the stop button?I think this is the internal HRM issue reported elsewhere? The test seems to be use an external HRM and see if the problem goes away.......
  • I've seen similar behavior with speed/wattage sensors. Freezing up and losing half the workout sucks.

No, I do not get a long pause. it seems to save just like any other activity. Only the distance is grossly misreported due to distance not recording after a certain point . I won't rule out the HRM but my inclination is to think that may not be the issue as the HR seems to record fine throughout the whole activity and looks fairly accurate. I do not have an external one to test with. I do appreciate you taking the time to respond.

I'm in the same boat. I got the watch a week ago, and did a 12 mile run on Saturday morning. It calculated around 11.56 or something like that, so I calibrated it after the run. Saturday night I tried out some different watch faces, and had 6 or so installed. Had a run Tuesday that froze at 1.16 miles, and one today that froze at .41 miles for 10 minutes, then said I was running 2:49 miles for the rest of my run. Anyway, I did some searching, and there appears to be a glitch with certain watch faces that are causing this. I've uninstalled them all except for NoFrills, and will see how it goes during my run tomorrow, and I'll report back. I'm pretty sure it is the watch face that's causing, because my first run with the watch worked just fine on the treadmill.

OK, me too, in my case my Tacx Neo. All OK with my original Vivoactive but the version 3 seems full of bugs. I saw reference to it being the built in oHRM as given it does it for me on both treadmill and turbo trainer the common thing is the oHRM. Also the last 4 hours HRM dispaly would often be blank even though I could see a HR being read. The common indicator for me that something had gone wrong is that there is a long pause when I press the stop button before the stop square appears and oftne this is immediately followed by the spead/cadence sensor being found again (in the case of the bike)

I guess there must be some people that is is fully working though?

I doubt it's the watch face as I don't ever mess with that stuff. Some of my runs on the treadmill would be OK, so it's not 100% failure by any means.

Ran 3 miles today on the treadmill with only the NoFrills watchface installed, and it worked perfectly. The watchfaces that I had installed when it was freezing were: SC8, Digi five, dividedtime, timeflies, and digic watch. Not sure which one caused the problem though.

I found another post that stated that there was a bug with watchfaces that displayed weather, and it tried to start gps during the treadmill activity.

Try uninstalling certain watchfaces and give it a try. Worked for me.
  • I'm trying the speed/wattage sensors again with an ant+ chest HRM and will report if there are additional dropouts. I have nothing loaded on the VA3.
  • I had something similar happen yesterday. I was using the Indoor Track App. At about 8 minutes in the accelerometer just stopped tracking distance. Then if you look at the graph it just periodically is active again for about 10 seconds then nothing. Cadence and HR continue to track as well as steps. I did have a custom Watch Face (Contour) but no external sensors attached. I had done several treadmill runs prior to this with no issue. It was my first time using the Indoor Track application so I thought that was the issue. Now I am thinking it may be more than that.
