Not Receiving Notifications with Google Hangouts

I'm not sure when exactly I noticed it, must be 2 months ago now though. But I don't get message notifications with Google Hangouts.

I figured it might have been to do with a custom kernel but have since gone back to stock and still no dice.

Running:
Google Pixel XL - 8.1.0 Build OPM1.171019.016
Watch Firmware 2.90
Connect IQ 2.4.1

All Smart Notifications turned on. Everything else seems to get a notification.

I also seem to get annoying weather updates which I can't figure out where to to turn off. It's 3 Degrees cooler than last Tuesday..

And canned responses with hangouts would be nice.

Having the same issue on a new device. Other notifications(ex: Nest, Ring, Email) seem to work.. just not Hangouts which is disappointing.

The last Garmin android app that works with Hangout notification is 4.1.11.

I tried 4.1.11 and 4.1.9 and it still did not work at all for me unfortunately.

Discovered something interesting which is that the Hangouts notifications do work if Hangouts is NOT the default SMS app.. if it is the default SMS app then they do not work..

Is this with 4.3?

Because Messages (Google) is my default.

I just rolled back to 4.1.11 and Hangouts works.

The manually adding apps to notifications is super annoying though.

This was on 4.1.11... basically if Hangouts is the default sms app nothing works on that version either.

For me it was that I had an active Hangouts session running in the foreground of one of my PC's. Once I lowered it, then it no longer was the main session and Hangouts started giving me audible notifications on my phone once again.
