Excessive++ stairs climbed..

Hi all :)

title says most of it - I’m having trouble with my VA3 grossly over allocating the number of stairs I’m doing each day.. I’d say it’s giving me triple the number of flights that I’m actually doing. Any thoughts?
  • adelehallett,

    the stair goal is not limited to stairs.

    When ever you walk and have an elevation gain at the same time it starts to count. Every 4m (I believe) it counts on stair.

    If you consider that, is the amount of stairs it shows still to high?

    Best regards

    Every 3m it counts one stair. My watch misses one or two stairs now and then but as a general indicator about elevation throughout the day it is nice to have it..
  • Funny since my garmin can't seem to track staris or elevation gain in general ( not just the VA3 but also the VS3 ). I've had to set my stair goal to 0 since it's so bad. That is despite that I have a 2 story home and at least 60 ft climb on my walk to work.
  • Mine does the exact opposite. Sometimes it immediately registers every floor I climb, and sometimes it stays at 0 stories (and 0 ft elevation) after climbing multiple floors.
  • Just checked some recent exercise logs. It shows swings of 50-70ft in the altimeter while I'm on my bike trainer ( stationary, basement ).

    The VA3 does not count stairs. It only counts flights.

    My VA3 counts about half the floors / flights I climb. But it counts lots of "floors" when I go running and mountainbiking in the woods. According to the "insights" on Garmin Connect I climb more floors than 95% of you all :p ! I bet the other 5% use a VA3 as well .... These numbers are useless!

    I started taking the stairs now in our office building, and the floors are approx. 3 meters high, which is the height difference counted as one floor. I find it spot on with 22 floors !!!

    I had previously found it quite accurate (we have a slightly short flight in our home, which would sometimes count, and sometimes not) - but beyond that, it was spot on.

    now, I’m finding I’ll be walking within my workplace (hospital wards), and at times, will accrue 20 flights just doing a lap of the ward.. it constantly buzzes to let me know I’ve done 2x, 3x, 4c my stair goal (which is set at 10 flights per day). I was hoping it might be a software bug, but perhaps it’s an issue with my unit.
  • Having the same problem. But it seems this forum is useless. FIVE YEARS and No Response.
