HELP: Sleep tracker not working and notification overload

I just bought my vivoactive 3 three days ago and am trying to decide whether to return it or not. For running it works like a dream. As a smart watch I'm not so impressed yet. Specifically I am having two frustrating problems. First I have worn it to bed twice and both nights I can see heart rate data but the sleep tracker says there is no sleep data and advises me to wear the device at night. I can't imagine what I am doing wrong here. It does not seem like this should be a complicated thing to do, but it is not working.
Second I keep deleting all my notifications and my watch face will say there are no messages but minutes later I will have dozens of notifications while my message counter still says zero. Worse the notifications are days or weeks old and often are ones I have already seen. Again this seems like a function that should just work and I can't see any obvious settings I can change to fix the problem.

I have the same problem with the sleep tracker.
  • FYI, I was getting the "wear this to bed" warning with my vivosmart 3 as well, I think it's a website bug. I still got sleep tracking.

For the notifications are you running the latest version of the Garmin Connect Mobile on your phone? Seems like that is pretty well broken since I'm now not getting ANY notifications after it working for 24 hours.

I had once this problem and i solved it via garmin connect on mobile
go to Health & Performance / Sleep and choose the corresponding day where you have HR data.
open this day and select edit (right corner"three dots :) ") and edit to correct Bed/Wake time

I hope that this will help you.

  • (FR 935 owner) Had the same problem for the last three days. Just followed your advice and noticed that although the sleep field in the main screen was missing, the bed and wake up times for the last three days were there, I didn't have to fill anything. Just had to tap save on all three days for the sleep data to show. Strange... Could this be an app problem ?
  • For what it's worth Garmin has always sucked with sleep tracking. It's ridiculous that you have to "tell" them the approximate bed and wake up times. It's 2018, big data is old news and AI is not simply a hype any longer. They should have all the necessary data to create a trusty algorithm for sleep tracking. These calculations happen on the server side (Garmin Connect), not on the device itself, so I wonder why they are still doing it so badly.

I used various Fitbit devices before, with and without HR, and they have always been spot-on, within a few minutes. Didn't matter if I went to bed at 11PM or after a night out at 8AM.

When my vivoactive3 iPhone app presents missing sleep data, I go to the watch and sync gps location to correct the time and location. 3 times tested and it solved the issue.

Have you solved the notification issue, I have the same problem and disabled notifications for connect on my iphone, as well disabled settings/phone/notifications on my VA3 but still getting these annoying (old and duplicated) notifications on my VA3!?

I have just tried the manual input, but not sure that this will solve the issue. Will it in your experience go back to automatic recording of sleep?
