Garmin Pay - wallet got deleted / could not re-enable (Android)

With the latest firmware and/or Connect App my wallet got deleted and I was unable to enable it again (could create it in the app but it was not transferred to the watch). After trying almost everything (factory reset, re-install app, etc) for a couple of hours I tried to do it with an iPhone (I own an Android device Oreo 8.0 OnePlus 5) I succeeded.


Obviously something is wrong with the Android version of the app since 2.9. Hopefully this will be fixed soon since I am not a fan of iPhone or Apple and will definitely not buy an iPhone only to be able to pay with my watch.


Apart from that: once the card is on the watch it is super easy to use the watch on contactless terminals. Never had problems - works exactly like the NFC plastic. Great job.

  • Same here - recreated the card, did a factory reset on the watch, still no wallet on the watch. Watch is stuck with "Synchronizing wallet".

    Pity, liked the wallet functionality.

    Been happily using Garmin Pay since November, now I am in the same position as the above. Really getting VERY sick of these software "upgrades" screwing up functionality on this device. There appear to be absolutely no Quality Assurance/Control going on at Garmin at the moment. If this retrograde crap does not soon cease I for one will be giving Garmin away as a lost cause.

    Re-installed my card in wallet on Garmin Connect on my phone (Samsung Galaxy S8+) and the VA3 got stuck trying to sync. After powering off (long press on the button) the VA3 did sync and card appears again. Only hope it will work when next used.

    Two2 questions for Garmin:-

    1 - Why did the wallet suddenly become "empty" in Garmin Connect ?
    2 - Why once a card was added back to Garmin Connect why would the VA3 get stuck trying to sync.

    As I mentioned in my previous post the level of QA from garmin is becoming unacceptable. For what it is worth, another "MOD" that occurred in the last day or so was that my widgets decided to re-arrange themselves without any intervention from me.

    Edit - 24 hours later, CC disappeared from Wallet again. Re-installed card into wallet, turned VA3 off, then back on and it was again on the VA3.

    I haven't noticed this, but yes, same here, wallet disappeared. I can create a new one, but can't add a card to that whatever I try... Lucily I noticed this from the forum instead of at the cash desk somewhere trying to pay...

    When I bought the watch it had the 2.7 firmware. That version was saying, wait for the upgrade before you can use the GarminPay. Got the upgrade to 2.8, managed even pay couple of times and now it's gone again with the 2.9. Just crazy...

    Thinking again, I'm not sure if this actually happened after GC got the update instead of firmware? Anyway, the functionality disappeared amnd I can't get it back working...

    Update: As mentioned in the first post I was able to successfully sync the wallet to the watch using an iPhone instead of Android Connect. After using the iPhone I switched back to Android (my primary phone) and everything continued to work for about 24h. Today (one day later) the wallet was again automatically removed from the watch and phone. Trying to register the card using Android I ended up in the same situation as yesterday (endless wallet synchronisation message on the watch).

    This is an unacceptable situation but I am not willing to switch to iPhone just to be able to pay with my watch. I would therefore really much appreciate if somebody at Garmin can take care of this issue and potentially solve it short term.

    So this actually confirms that the issue is rather Garmin Connect than firmware and even related to Android version only.
  • Same here, wallet got removed, but I was able to add it again by stopping Garmin Connect in the Android application settings (forced stop) and turning off the VA3 twice (once before adding the card in garmin pay and once after to get the card synced to the VA3).

    My impression is that Bluetooth communication is marred. Since the update of the 2.9FW and/or last update of GC, I get very few notification on the watch. Up until then notifications where working fine (Android 7, LG6).

  • Same problem using OnePlus 5 Android 8 (Stock OOS 5.0.1). Watch has FW 2.9. Endless "Syncing Wallet" message on the watch. Garmin Connect App seems to be able to see the wallet and the card. However, it fails to synchronize it to the device. I can manage my wallet on my phone, add / remove cards, change passcode, etc. But this never gets to the watch. If I try to delete the wallet I get a message: "We were unable to delete your wallet. Error Code [se].". If I will restart the watch at that stage I will get a message that wallet was successfully deleted (after watch restarted).
  • Doug996InKC- are you working on general issue that I described or only what sbolten reported ? (i.e. deletion of the wallet)

    The issue is pretty important - if you can not trust your payment system, how can you use it ? I need to know that I can rely on watch when I need to pay if I do not take any other payment options with me when running...
