Activity disappeared before saving.

Whilst 2.90 has so far been flawless in terms of the touch screen locking out, I've encountered a new issue today.

I currently have side swipe disabled and auto-lock enabled.

Today I completed a run, pressed the button to stop, and had a chat while waiting for the HR recovery screen to come on. When I looked down at the watch again, it was on the normal (stock) watch face and locked. i unlocked it and it was as if I hadn't been in an activity at all. Now I know that it's possible that I had brushed it when talking in such a way as to have pressed "done" then "don't save" or whatever, but it doesn't seem likely...

I've plugged the watch in to the PC and there are no activity files with today's date, so it looks more like a discard than a crash.

Anyone else had similar?

Cheers.
  • Yes, I had this issue last night... I finished a bike ride, and was leaving it at the "pause" screen to get the HR recovering info... in the past, I would hit done/save right away. Anyway, I was putting my bike away and then noticed I was either at the watchface or activity selection screen... but either way, the activity was gone. Didn't think about looking in the filesystem, but as you noted, probably not there.

Definitely a bad bug... I've had restarts during activities, and I could always continue where I left off... so I though that a nice feature, at least, was that it was able to recover well from crashes.

I'm thinking the watch somehow thought the activity was discarded.

I don't really need the HR recovery numbers, so I'll go ahead and simply save the activity as soon as I'm done.

    Glad it's not just me.

Yes, I'll make sure I'll save straight away in future as well. It's a shame as I quite like that recovery figure - some days it seems to indicate that I'm merely very unfit rather than desperately unfit, but it's not as important to me as the activity data which is, after all, the main reason for the watch...

I had this several times and I can tell you how to avoit this. When you end or pause your activity but not ready co complete/save it yet, just lock the screen :)

Several times my sweaty sleeve "pressed" the cancel and activity was gone for good.

Also, if your dress is with long sleeves and you do the activity during the day time, reduce the screen brightness to 0 because during activity your sweaty sleeve touches the screen and every time light turns on. Just see how much battery you will save the next time :)

    I rely on auto-lock, but it's a good point - I'll give it a go, thanks.

I don't run in a dress; it wouldn't be a good look for me ;-)ciq.forums.garmin.com/.../1296847.jpg
  • Oh dear! Just lost evening training as I am now wearing my winter long sleeves. Was hoping of some way of recovering it but guess no chance.
Assume there is no auto save option hidden in the settings like my old 405.

This is the best answer, I had long sleeves.  That's how I guess I lost my activity.

  • Connect your Garmin with the usb cable, look at the path \Garmin\Activities: you'll find all the workouts, the unsaved too. Keep in mind this file.

Jump to https://connect.garmin.com -> login -> workouts -> import -> choose the file and that's all.
