No VO2max for cycling?

I get VO2max estimations for running, but not for cycling on my vivoactive 3. I recorded several cycling activities longer than including mountainbiking, but still don't get a estimation. I used IQ activities to record my cycling activities, do I have to use the Garmin standard to get VO"max estimations?
  • AFAIK you need powermeter for VO2max estimation, which is not supported by VA3.
  • I have the same issue.
    i can manually initiate a vO2max measurement for running or walking.
    Yesterday I did a 60km bike ride & was surprised that the VO2msx had not been measured.
    Garmin Connect supports a cycling VO2max option but can the VA3 measure it?
  • Already answered above. The Firstbeat analytics that Garmin uses needs power meter data to generate a cycling Vo2Max value and since the VA3 doesn't support power meter usage it doesn't do cycling Vo2Max.

    alternative for other way to see vo2max in cycling not hardware necessary , is datafield , im testing and good job, graphical on dashboard is verry cool :)
    the datafield in boutique ic here for users interested :) https://apps.garmin.com/fr-FR/apps/d...3-c8ac641a2dba
    thx :)

    just see in action :) --> https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/2425988282
  • That sounds good, but the app page doesn't say what methodology its VO2Max calculation is based on. We all know these are estimates, I wonder how valid the app's calculation is in the absence of a power meter, since even with a power meter it is still an estimate, but hopefully more accurate. At least FirstBeat discloses some info on their methodology.

    Thank you for your explanations! Strange that you get a value of "0" which is very bad in Connect IQ - Garmin should correct it. I might use the app kevin34300 sugestet

    I also use the datafield for sport walking and I have the same result as VO2 vivo3 so even if it is an estimate, it seems very close, it does not cost anything, then I do not think that a watch can replace laboratory test, everything remains estimates :)

    Where are you seeing a cycling Vo2Max value of "0"?

    I don't see a cycling Vo2Max value on my VA3, FR735, or in the Connect Mobile app. Although the 735 does do cycling Vo2Max I don't have a power meter so there is no value on the watch otherwise it would show up in GCM. There was a weird thing back during the summer where I was getting cycling FTP values when using the 735 for my bike commutes despite having no power meter but I've never seen a cycling Vo2Max anywhere in my stats.

    On Garmin Connect "Reports" - I hope you can see the screenshot. Your Cycling Vo2Max is poor :(ciq.forums.garmin.com/.../1296107.jpg

    I have the same concern regarding VO2max. I use FR 935 with Garmin Tri HRM + Cadence + Magene Speed Sensor with Bryton 310. I think It can read Vo2Max data on the bike, it turns out it's not, while my friend uses Garmin Edge 25 without power meter (confirmation), I see his Garmin Connect app read the bike vo2max data, am I missing something in this case?
