VivoActive 3 not recording heart rate data

I bought this watch and heart rate monitor last week and got really excited about it. As soon as I connected with Garmin Express last week, it stopped writing heart rate, steps, etc data to my iPhone Garmin Connect! It was recording perfectly. I synched it with Garmin Express because I wanted to download new watch faces. The iPhone App did not work.

When I try to view the data through the Garmin Express, same thing-no heart rate data.

Overall, the Garmin VivoActive3 is a nice piece of hardware. The software side needs some work.

Can anyone give some advice to an IOS and MAC OS user? I have a feeling that the Apple Watch works without any hitches. However, the Apple Watch does not do all the cool things that this VivoActive 3 does.

I use an iPhone 6s with the connect app and it works perfectly.. Maybe try to reset the VA3 and reinstall the app (reboot the phone) and then connect it again.. it might help
Afterwards you can try to reconnect it with Garmin express. If it does not help, do the same thing but first connect express

How do I reset the VA3? I shut the power off and turned it back on. Are you saying reset it back to factory?

Can I use both the Garmin Connect App on my phone and the Garmin Express App on my Macbook? I did not plan on using the desktop app until I realized the Garmin Connect App on my iPhone would not download new watch faces. I always got a server error.
  • It sounds like activity tracking might have been inadvertently disabled when you connected through Express on your Mac. That could cause the step and HR problems but not the mobile app not downloading watch faces.

Did the server error only happen yesterday or have you tried many times over several days? It took forever for my run to sync yesterday because the servers were actually down and the website was down for a time on Friday. I'm guessing there might be a connection to CES starting this week there.

Theres no reason why the watch shouldn't work with the mobile app on an iPhone since every watch face, app, and widget that I've loaded since CIQ became a thing has been loaded via the app. In the end you might have to reset defaults on the watch and go through the initial setup over again.

Mine stopped recording heartrate after installing Garmin Express as well... On a Windows 10 system. Heart rate still displays, but is not recording to the Connect app on the phone or syncing through the Express app. Very disappointing.
  • It has happened to me a few times. Sometimes, after disconnecting the watch from the PC, the pulsations are still seen, but the graph of last heartbeats for 4 hours begins to be empty.
On all occasions, restarting the watch (turn off and on with the button) solves the problem.
