Is Power-On "Press" or "Hold"?

Good day superstars,

I am new to Garmin watches, recently I got my vivoactive 3 and upgraded the software to v2.70.

With reference to the manual published on http://www8.garmin.com/manuals/webhelp/vivoactive3/EN-US/GUID-F76E3DE8-D6F8-4C7E-A361-3DBC4D8A7607.html, it advises "Hold to turn on the device" but actually I find I can turn on the watch by pressing it without holding the button.

Is this normal or there's something not going well with my watch only?

Any hints will be very much appreciated!

  • Every garmin device I had so far (and this includes both watches and handhelds) turned on on a single short press, but "hold" also works. Hold is necessary to turn off.

Cool thanks tmk2! I've got in touch with Garmin support on the other day. I am advised the "Hold" was applicable for software v2.50 when the user manual was composed but the newer versions are using "Press" instead, they are going to update the user manual accordingly.
  • The confusion may come from the fact that most garmins take a while to show any reaction to the power button press. For several years I turned on my FR310XT by holding the power button until the display came on, but later on I found out that a short press is sufficient.
