Heart rate sensor LEDs

Is it just me, or has anyone else noticed that the LEDs for the hear rate monitor are on 24/7? They are not solid, they are flashing, but seem to be on all the time unless taken off wrist. Any else?
That's the way it should be. Previous sensors were only sampling every so often to preserve battery but the latest generation of sensors monitor continuously. While in standby/watch mode the LED's will flash but during activity it should be solid.
^ yep, the reason battery life is rougly a week (VA3) vs two weeks (VA-HR) is due in large part to the constant HR monitoring, so yes it is on almost all the time if not all the time.
I tried to turn off the HR monitoring to save energy. When I turn off the monitoring, the LED are still flashing all the time. Its impossible for me to turn them off. Does anyone know how to turn off the LEDs completely?
Sorry to bump this but my VS4 does this too. When they are blinking rapidly, from your post it means its in standby/watch mode. Does this mean it is still monitoring HR in real time? Because on my app even when LEDs are blinking, the app shows HR changing slighty so I am guessing it is still tracking even when in standby mode? Thanks!
