New VA3 with issues

I recently got a VA3 a few days ago and my initial impressions were positive until I started to use the device for a running activity. I'm not sure if others are having the same issues as me or if I have a defective unit and need to contact Garmin for a replacement.

My major issues so far:

1. ANT+ sensors constantly disconnect/reconnect during an activity. I use a foot pod(Stryd), tempe, and HRM-run for my activities and they all constantly disconnect and reconnect. Not sure if this is a issue that was introduced with the latest firmware update, but it's very annoying and messed up data. Especially for indoor runs with the foot pod.

2. Altimeter measurements are way off. During my first run, my total gain/loss was way off. Even the elevation profile was no where near what it should be. Looking at it, you would think I was running downhill when in fact I was running uphill. I've ran this route with other Garmin devices and even though the total gain/loss would be slightly different, the profiles were pretty close to the same.

3. GPS/Pace issues. It seems like the GPS stops recording at times and tries to catch up. This messes up the track where it's not as smooth and my average pace suffers a bit. I have the data recording to every second.

Not so major issues:

1. The temperature sensor doesn't always show data in the watch faces that I use. Sometimes it does and sometimes the reading is way off (like 574 F) . I know my body temp influences this measurement, so not really something I use or care about. But it is something that I've noticed and not sure if I have a faulty temperature sensor that would impact altimeter from working correctly.

It seems FW update is having problems staying connected to sensors. It's been reported and I'm sure it will be corrected with the next update. The internal temperature sensor is for the barometric altimeter and a faulty one would effect your readings. Yours read 574F? If that's correct and your not missing a decimal point I would exchange my watch.

I am also having ant+ (speed and Cadence)connectivity issues with my new va3. Both disconnect at different times during the ride. I had the va3 on left wrist and fr935 on the other wrist during the ride. The 935 remained connected throughout the ride while the va3 disconnected and reconnected often during the ride.
It appears to me that my va3 has serious connectivity issues with ant+ speed and cadence sensors.
Also, the screen light comes on and off by itself during the workout (ride) for no apparent reason?

I like the touch screen and the appearance of the watch but these connectivity issues render the watch unusable for me.
  • It is very annoying that the ANT+ sensors don't stay connected. Hopefully they'll fix that quickly. My altimeter is really messed up. Doesn't register stair climbs at all and the elevation profile for an activity is no where near accurate.

I really like tha appearance and size of the watch. But my VA3 is not really usable as an activity/fitness watch.

I did contact Product Support and waiting to hear back from them.

I too am having the altimeter issues. This is my 2nd VA3. That's actually the only issue I have (same with both). I've been communicating with Garmin about it and it seems that quite a few people are having the same problem. "After speaking to my higher support team. It seems this was reported to us by a few other customers as well. They have created a case which has already been escalated to engineering for review. I have added you to this case. You will be notified once this issue is resolved." That's the message I got from them. They have a chat option which makes it quick and easy to communicate with them.
  • Well it's good to know that I'm not the only one. However I remember my Fenix 3 HR having altimeter issues and it took them about a year to figure out how to fix that.
