Odd Heart rate graph in Garmin Connect since the 2.7 upgrade

My unit is taking HR data and I can see that by the last 4 hours display on the watch but Garmin connect has long periods of flat line data (and even when I disconnect and charge the watch it is not picked up.) The only thing I can say is refer to the two "flat zones" in the graph. You can see that one did not even show a change in HR when I was moving about. In the past it woule take hear data all day and record it. Now it is just extrapolating large expanses of data even though the watch is collecting actual numbers. WTH? My setting was Smart Data but this has only been since the upgrade and before that I would see my all day heart rate. And it renders my RHR as useless because when I am sitting there it is lower than what they have extrapolated it as. What is going on. This is off and on over several days and after a couple of resets.

Does anyone have a clue what is going on here. I can even connect the watch and sync directly but it does not upload the data.

  • No. I looked back. This odd behavior has been sporadic since before the upgrade.
  • It's happened to me a few times. I notice it when I go into GCM and stats aren't updating. I do a reset on the watch and data starts importing into GCM again from that point. Annoying but I haven't done anything about it yet nor seen anything really about it online.
  • I have had more issues with GCM than online. I think, since I pull the watch off every night while I take a shower, I will just leave Bluetooth off. Trying to do what I can to maximize this terrible battery life so I have turned off backlight (unless I touch the screen) / Bluetooth. Smart data and will see How long I can get. Would like to be able to get 24 hours with 8 of GPS but that may be a pipe dream - but honestly if I plug in at night and then in the am while drinking my coffee that is enough to charge and sync.

This really has been a matter of compromise. GC has a lot of useful data but if the data going into it is bad, it does not have the value I thought it would.

I don't want you to take this the wrong way, but you've already exchanged your device and based on the majority of your post in this forum the VA3 doesn't meet your expectations. I'm wondering why you still own one and haven't moved on to something different?
  • Not taking it the wrong way but I know a new product can be buggy until things settle down and I have mentioned before I have had a lot of Garmin GPS devices in my past. Many issues are just understanding how t hings work but how do you know if someone is having the same issue and if there is a resolution if you don't put it out there? I will just open a support ticket. I have already stated the fitbit is not what I was looking for. But I would, with Garmin's history in fitness devices, expect not to see this level of issues. The device that was returned was clearly defective.

I went back and looked at my posts and actually have not "complained" since my first issue which was genuine. I don't rely on a device to wake me up but darned it. If I cannot feel the move alert at all, and could barely feel alerts during exercise (such as heart rate alerts) it was not serving its purpose. The vibration motor on the first device was day and night different from the replacement and the first unit was doing all kinds of other squirelly things. Garmin tech support told me to return it. In this thread large gaps of HR data may not be an issue for you but they are for me and I would like to understand the root cause. I am not after the bells and whistles but the core functionality should work.

Charging every 2-3 days on the other thread? [not my comment but I charge it daily. I will see how it goes with turning off the gesture on backlight which is already set with the quickest timeout and a 30% brightness.]

Now back to the topic at hand asking people if they have seen that odd data where HR data is in the watch but not picked up by Garmin Connect and what could be the cause? If I scroll over there are 3-4 hour blocks sometimes with no data other than that which GC extrapolites.
