Vivoactive 3 Vs Forerunner235

So I want to make the plunge to a Garmin device. I was all set to get the forerunner 235, then the Vivoactiv33 showed up.

Has anyone here had experience with the 235 and upgraded to the vivoactive3?

If not are you happy with the vivactive3?

What features are lost or gained? I did the product comparison, but I havent had experience with either product to know what each thing does.

I want to use it for running.

I am coming from a Fitbit Charge Hr. While I am happy with the running tracking, I am disappointed with the sleep tracking and evn more disappointed in the build quality.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Larry
  • I have a 230 and a va3, and bear in mind that the 23x is 2 years old now, is primarily a running watch (it doesn't have a native walking app nor many of the apps you find on a va3), and when it comes to speed and 3rd party app compatibility, is the "old generation". The display of the va3 is better too. If you can, find a local vendor where you can see both side by side. The va3 to me, looks more like a day-to-day watch.

I'd echo what Jim said and add that the optical HRM is also outdated and always seemed to be fairly laggy for the year I owned one (likely because it has Elevate HRM Gen 1; VA3 is Elevate Gen 3). The 230/235 series overall is ancient at this point in comparison to something new like the VA3.
  • Same here. The 235 is a great running watch but overall is less functional, looks like a running watch, and is stuck on the first generation of IQ compatibility.

Thanks for the replies. I think I am leaning toward the vivoactive3. I think it is cheaper than the 235 as well
