Trouble to stop an activity - to cold?

Hi,
I'm still a VA3 beginner but I think this is a bug and not a user mistake.
Yesterday I was running the first time. After about 3km the watch was suddenly vibrating every 30sec and has shown different things on the display ( e.g. heart rate graph). The display was locked and shouldn't change I would say.
Once I was done with the activity I've pressed the button to unlock and the to stop. Unlock was ok but I couldn't stop the activity. The touch screen was not working at all. After a while I've done a 10-15sec long press to shutdown. After restart I was able to stop the activity and save the result.
At this time I had installed the dwMap app on the VA3 but used the standard running activity.
However I thought that dwMap caused the issue and uninstalled it.
Today I was running again. After 3km the display started to show the big lock icon on the screen. After 10km it started to vibrate for no reason again. I've not set an heart rate alarms etc. At km 13 I tried to stop the activity. Unlock with button was working fine but instead of stopping the activity it was just paused and the touch screen and bezel wasn't working. Long press button to shutdown and restart -> same problem. Long press shutdown/restart again -> now I was able to stop and save the activity.
Temperature was about 4°C and my fingers where really cold.
I've FW 2.60 installed.

5.53 km (foot pod) with no GPS and no trouble. Stopped with button push; Done with touchscreen; and Saved. This is only a sample size of one. Oh....and it's dam cold!

Heart rate, elevation and pace are messed up. One problem at a time.

    I have a similar issue.

I start an activity (Golf) and everything is fine within the first 15 minutes.
I'm starting to sweat a little bit. Then when I have a look at the VA3 there is randomly select a new view.
(Green, other hole, settings, whatch face, ...)

But I am able to change the view. The screen is not frozen.

Is there a dependency between the outside temparature and the temperature in my warm sleeve?

    Conditions:

    (+7 C)

Add me to the list. Only my 2nd run with the VA3 and the touchscreen froze. About 30
degrees F outside. Any word on a resolution?

    I have the same problem.
I cycled for 1 hour 33 minutes, the temperature was definitely above 0C, and the 'Done' wouldn't work. I tried restarting the device but it still gets stuck there. There was no rain, so this doesn't relate to water.

UPDATE: I went out on a bike ride today in below-freezing temps, and I did not have a lockup problem!! Compared to the last two rides when I did have lockup problems, there were two main differences today - 1. I did not use my Wahoo HR strap, 2. Since I was using VA3 heartrate, the watch was buried under sleeves and gloves. Maybe it was keeping it warm and toasty that made it work properly... Not a satisfactory solution, by any means, since I should be able to look at my speed and distance while I'm riding, but a minor success worth reporting, I think.

Ok, I must be a dope. I do like the watch and was hoping that not EVERYONE has the problem, so I bought my son one for Christmas. What I am thinking is that not everyone is working out in the cold. His and mine both locked up Hard. It was 39f and I was using the other exercise (Motocross) with the gps. Just like the very first time the screen started going through every screen the watch has. Then it locked up completely and this time I could not even use the button (my sons as well). Came home and let hot water run over it with no response. Plugged it in to charge and could feel it get hotter but still no response. Had to hold button in for approximately 60 secs before the watch shutdown. Luckily I was able save the workout then. I’m at a loss. I was hoping my sons would not have this problem.

Does Garmin monitor this forum? Or, is this just a place to vent our frustrations? I thought I had done my homework, but I am VERY disappointed. I purchased on-line from GPS Central in Calgary. I will be reviewing their return policy tomorrow.
  • If i chance to change it,i will but i bought it another country.i don't know how it's gonna work. I'm also satisfied with it (except this problem) so i dont want to change.
Garmin has to announce about it. Cause people are waiting and we can't use it. I sent videos also to show how it frezee.we are not a tech guy that try to find solutions. Garmin doesn't officially monitor these forums. Contacting support is the only way to be certain that an issue being discussed here is escalated within the company.

  • Well Garmin is aware of this thread.
I mentioned it when they were asking for some more nformarion any they told me they will look at it.
Furthermore they know how many of us have reported this issue in this thread.
I've send them an email today to get the status for my case because I need to return my VA3 within the next 4 weeks.
I still hope to have a release date for the forerunner 645 by then.
Keep on writing cases and write a reference to case PSC-1190 and PSC-410.
