Step count while using a cane

I am using a cane when I walk due to hip replacement surgery. The step count on my new vivoactive 3 is very low. I noticed that this happened as well when using my 920xt while backpacking using hiking poles. Any suggestions? Thanks

Unfortunately I don't know of a solution but I have seen this problem posted in various threads across the forums. I suspect the only answer would be to use an external sensor such as a footpod which I tend to use anyway

Have you tried switching the va3 to the other wrist?

Changing to the other wrist doesn’t seem to help.
