Water changes my touch screen. Hot/Cold it doesn't matter.

Water changes my touch screen like I am touching it. Whether I am in the shower, bath, washing dishes, or swimming water changes the screen like I am touching it. This can't be normal as you can use this watch for swimming. Is this a defect with my watch or are others having this issue?

Lock your screen. Water hitting the screen; as anything else, will activate the touch screen. It's not a defective.
  • It's normal. and just one of those things with a touch screen. As TMK17 said, do a screen lock if it bothers you.

How would your phone handle the same conditions if you were looking at a screen?

One thing that can be a pain is the side swipe, so you may want to try just turning that off first.
  • This is not a function of a touch screen. My wife has an apple watch that does not do that. My iPhone 8 and wife's iPhone 7 does not do that. I have taken my phone under water to take photos and no issues with the screen. Also, water usually makes the touch screen not function because the screen doesn't pick up the slight capacitance of your finger. I believe this is a hardware issue or Apple and Samsung just do it better.
  • That's the difference between resistive and capacitive touchscreens. The old Vivoactive also does not react to water. But it has to be grounded. It only works, if you touch the back.
I used to lock the screen when showering, too.
