VA3 sync issue

This afternoon I was greeted by a new feature on my VA3. It no longer syncs to my phone. I have tried a hard reset, a soft reboot (both phone and watch), and still, it does not work.

I should mention that the watch will sync just fine with Garmin Express on my pc.

I have tried contacting Garmin support, but their support chat is not working.

Anybody have any ideas?

have you tried unpairing the watch from the app and then re-pairing? that would be my next recommendation.

well, I was not sure I wanted to go through that again. However, I did.

The Upside, the pairing process worked better than last time.

The downside, I got a server connection error during the sync and sync still fails.

I think Garmin is having some serious server issues today.

    Update:

Today, sync still does not complete. However, it finally did enough of a sync to bring my workouts over. I guess that is a step in the right direction.
  • Very unhappy with va3 syncing. I have to reset everything anytime I come close to my old va (which is fine). It means I lose all my recent workouts on the 3. Is there anyway to direct sync to my computer? Very very unhappy.

Every mobile device I’ve ever had could sync with more than one device even from other companies . I can’t the VA do that even for other Garmin devices
  • Even devices not belonging to Garmin can mess with the sync I was told by tech support. I am going through GCM not pulling in data properly and I had to remove a number of bluetooth devices totally unrelated from my phone. I actually quit using GCM mobile but once again will go through the uninstalling reinstalling repairing steps..........because there are some thiings apparently in BCM not available on the windows GC [such as editing sleep data]
  • This might or might not be relevant.

A lot of people (me included) have problems with the conflict of WiFi and Bluetooth as they both share the 2.4 Ghz bands. The solution for those people is to use data or 5.0 Ghz if their phone supports it. Mine doesn't and I don't have a data plan.

However, I do get it to work. I turn off bluetooth, and turn on wifi - that gets me the list of devices into GCM. If I don't do that, I'm likely to be stuck in hourglass mode waiting for the display to refresh. Then I turn on bluetooth again and it might or might not work but it clearly slows my wifi to a crawl. I can see the Wifi icon struggling not to mention the slowness of the last part of the sync circle. Eventually it works or cuts out completely. If it cuts out, I stop and start wifi and eventually it works. Obviously, this doesn't help notifications on the device during the day.

Another "trick" I use is to go to the list of devices, drag down the notification bar, and turn off bluetooth from there. Then Android tells me that an app wants to turn on bluetooth. I don't know if it really makes a difference but the connection works 95% of the time this way and avoids having to re-pair when the connection doesn't work.

I didn't always have this problem and I don't know if it's the GCM bluetooth connection that grabs so much bandwidth that it creates the WiFi issue. However, I can tell you that a lot of people who don't have Garmin devices also have this problem.
