Add gpx file to VA3

Hi there, I try to add a gpx file from the Dutch biker website Route.nl by using Basecamp or DWmamps. Unfortunally it is not possible, both application accept the gpx file. Is there an alternative, what do you recommend?
  • I think that your only option is to import the gpx into Garmin Connect, then convert it into a course, and then send it to the VA3.

  • Thanks for your reply. In Garmin Connect the gpu is not visible. But with Garmin Basecamp I see the file on my VA3. But where I can find the gpx file on my watch?

That's probably because Garmin Connect accepts only activity gpx files and not course gpx files. If this is the case, the you're out of luck, i.e. there are ways to convert one to the other but it requires some tinkering.

You can put ANY file in your watch's storage, but that does not mean that the watch will see it. As I was already trying to explain the VA3 does not support gpx files directly.
  • What is the purpose? The Vivoactive doesn't do navigation so I'm not sure what you're going to do with the file once you get it on the watch.
  • Oh, right! I just checked the manual, and although the VA3 does have some basic navigation features, course navigation is not among them. So - yes - trying to upload a gpx course or activity to the VA3 seems futile.

Thanks for your reply. The purpose is to select the downloaded track and follow it by navigation. I've do the same with my TomTom Aventurer, the watch I have before. But I understand that with the VA3 it is not possible?
  • What I have done:
The downloaded course gpx file converted to a gpx track by www.gpsies.com/convert
In connect.garmin.com uploaded the converted file. In Connect the file is visible.

  • I don't think there are any apps on the va3 that use GPX files. With Garmin, GPX is usually something for the outdoor devices, while the va3 is a fitness device.

This may be a stupid question, but what is a gpx.file? Isn't that the file type being used when you plot a course using the dwMap app?

Very good. That's the way to do it. The thing is that as it appears the VA3 does not support course navigation of any kind (I haven't realized that until I looked up in the manual). So I do not see any way to do it on your watch.
