Recovery HR

I have been looking to see if I can get recovery heart rate and so far haven't seen if it is captured. BUT I was playing tennis today and recorded it as cardio. Afterward when it give the summary, I think I say recovery HR - but I was distracted and lost it - I am now looking to see if indeed it was showing that and where I can see it in the app or on the Web.
  • This one of those odd things that I don't understand with Garmin. The recovery heart rate is measured and written into the FIT file but then it's not displayed in the stats on the web or mobile versions of Connect. The only way, that I know of, to see your HR recovery is to load the FIT file into another program that is capable of parsing the format or exporting to a CVS file and finding it yourself.
  • To see it on the watch then stop the activity, but do not save it. Now wait 2 minutes. The Recovery HR will display on the watch. As R Tellis states you can see it recorded in GC or GCM though.

    Can or can't?

Does any know a good app to import .FIT files to view this?

  • Actually I find it strange that at the end of a workout, if I wait for 2 minutes, my VA-HR calculates Recovery HR and will display it on the watch until I save the workout.... Data to never be seen again.... In their own app even????
  • Agree that it's a silly thing to not give you easy access to data that's collected

So - I contacted support to try and get a definitive answer to this. The rep pointed me to this:

    https://www8.garmin.com/manuals/webhelp/vivoactivehr/EN-US/GUID-4A13852E-C46C-47A7-B552-F6CF50E526EE.html

"If you are training with wrist-based heart rate or a compatible chest heart rate monitor, you can check your recovery heart rate value after each activity. Recovery heart rate is the difference between your exercising heart rate and your heart rate two minutes after the exercise has stopped. For example, after a typical training run, you stop the timer. Your heart rate is 140 bpm. After two minutes of no activity or cool down, your heart rate is 90 bpm. Your recovery heart rate is 50 bpm (140 minus 90). Some studies have linked recovery heart rate to cardiac health. Higher numbers generally indicate healthier hearts.
TIP: For best results, you should stop moving for two minutes while the device calculates your recovery heart rate value. You can save or discard the activity after this value appears."

(IT IS INTERESTING THAT THIS IS FROM THE VA HR PAGE, NOT THE VA3 PAGE)

I asked if there was a way to view this after the fact, and he confirmed no. He suggested I post the idea here:

    http://www8.garmin.com/contactUs/ideas/

Looks like a good place to put product suggestions.
  • Okay, Just submitted the idea myself as well. I also added storing/displaying the actual Recovery HR data, not just the final number, would be great too!

Agree - I would like to be able to see trends over time.

Yes, it would be great to be able to see that number. I usually miss it at the end of a workout. Maybe they can put it in the connect website?
