Why is GPS enabled during Strength Training? How to disable?

I noticed the attached map on my workout overview after this morning.

Why is GPS enabled during a strength workout, and how can I disable it by default? ciq.forums.garmin.com/.../1262562.png

This is very odd since GPS isn't an option under settings for strength training. Is it possible you hit navigate prior to starting the strength session? It's the only thing I can come up with.
  • In the first week I had mine I had a yoga session and a strength workout that mysteriously had GPS data. Hasn't happened again since.

are you on the 2.50 firmware?
  • I've been having trouble with treadmill runs stopping during a run for no apparent reason (loses my pace & distance stops) .. ive noticed on these runs that it records the GPS data as well. I wonder if this is a bigger issue .. is there anyway to disable the GPS for these activities?

I did a treadmill run, finished it, then went right to a strength workout. Definitely didn't hit navigation beforehand.

    I am running 2.50 firmware.
  • Which watchface are you using?

    The same thing happened yesterday.

I'm running the default digital watchface.

This is happening for every single Strength workout and significantly impacting my battery life as I do strength training 6-7 days a week. Is it happening to anyone else?
  • I've had issues with treadmill and indoor biking that turns on gps. Another thread mentioned 3rd party watchface that obtains weather data but I believe it may be a bug on garmins end. A user on there stated that the code for watchface does not have access to gps. I will be testing some indoor activities tonight using garmins watchface.
  • It will be the watchface .. I had this issue with treadmill runs. if you remove all your 3rd party watchfaces and go to stock ones (or use a basic face like one out of the grunge series) you will not have this issue.

I contacted Garmin about this and they told me to contact the maker of the watchface and that it wasn't a bug on their side hahaha. To be honest, I think the watch devs are following what Garmin tell them to do and there is an issue on the Garmin side, there was a beta update for the fenix 5 series that addressed this issue - go figure
  • I've got the same problem.

If you look under the 'settings' option in cardio, it has the option to enable/disable gps, but you don't get the same in strength for some reason?!

Not sure how that can be related to the watch face...
