Actionable Notifications

One of the major reasons I chose the Vivoactive 3 was so I could respond to notifications from my watch, but so far I haven't actually been able to do so. The only button available on any of my notifications is "Dismiss". My dad got one too, and he is able to respond to text messages. Is there something I need to do to enable this functionality?

It only works on android phones.

    I have a Google Pixel.
  • I am using Textra on Android (Nexus 6P) as a replacement for the stock messaging app and I am able to reply to single texts. However, group texts (which arrive over MMS) don't even alert on the watch. And text notifications from Google Voice (which are like texts but not technically SMS) appear as regular alerts - they just show "Dismiss".

In other words, anything coming from an app that is not the designated text (SMS) message handler will not have the option to reply.

This is too bad, because Android O lets you reply to SMS, MMS, Slack, Voice, etc. from the notification on the phone. It would be nice if the Garmin app could do this also.

    I saw this too,
pretty bad, when i consider that the smart features were a big reason to get that. seems like garmin has to do some work on that side.

i have another problem slightly connected to this. i searched the webs for days no for a solution, but i have not found anything.

i have a multichatclient (Disa) it combines SMS, Whatsapp and Telegram in one app. When i set to show SMS notifications in the Connect app it will show on VA3. I also set to show notifications from the Disa app seperatly in the connect app. The VA3 will only show notifications from SMS but not from the other clients i use in Disa. It has something to do with how the notification widget handles Sms and all other notifications. Because when i clone my disa notification with tasker and select it in the connect app it will show. (only dismissable but anyways)

i thought maybe it has something to do with how the notification widget/connect app handles stacked notifications from Android 7.0.

does anyone have an idea what i can do there. i pretty much done with my knowledge here.

Call garmin and beg them to recode things (will never happen, unless you find 25+ other people that have the same complaint) or stop using Disa and start using all of apps seperately.

Just the neature of the best unfortunately.

Thats sad. I'm using Disa since years now. so i guess it will be my own Tasker workaround.
  • It should be possible to decline a call and automatically send a text message.
Something like: "Sorry, I cant talk right now, I call you later".

I had this problem on my new vivoactive 3 too.
I would get an alert on my vivoactive 3 that said "new message" but had no details on who it was from or the actual message.

The connection between the phone and watch was good or I would not be getting any text alert at all.

The problem is in a phone setting.

In my phone messaging app I had to change the settings to allow text message preview. When I get a text now a preview window shows up on my phone screen. It also now shows the name of the person and the full text message on my vivoactive 3.

You need to go into your phone application manager and make sure that the connect app has all permissions.

Then check the settings in the connect app itself. My permission for text messages has turned itself off before.

    I hope this helps someone.
I was very frustrated until I got this figured out.
